The English subs/trans are actually quite good considering the source's love of untranslatable wordplay. XD Still need a clean raw though....
do you have the last ova ????
Take this https://nyaa.si/view/998502 and apply this https://nyaa.si/view/999333
@deadman80 Thank you. Would have been better had the uploader credited me though.
tfw there will never be a completed S2 + OVAs + Movie batch from either UTW or Flax
utw any minute now
As for me, I'm still working on this, people.... I'm very grateful to 0x89537541 aka hex89 for having put together the decent subs that "anonymous" used here to mux with the chinese hardsub that's currently the only available "raw" .... I'm in the middle of the movie at this point, using the chinese, the japanese, and hex89's translation to TRY to make a smoother flowing set of subs, with "nicer" typesetting, if I can... Not that my translation will be better. Just different. Some of my translated jokes might sound better to your ears, and some might sound worse... The reason it takes me so long is that I agonize over 3 or 4 different ways to say the longer lines, to try and get jokes across, or to make it match the japanese speech pattern while still sounding natural. Someone said of my earlier ova, that I was far too literal in my translations, and I am pretty sure there is a lot of that in what I'm doing currently, but I still feel like I'm successfully touching things up... listening to the japanese, and seeing the translation of the chinese, there are too many places where the chinese translation missed a nuance that I feel should be emphasized. So I will keep going. It may take another week. I haven't decided if I will try to "hide" the chinese hardsubs, or not. Right now I haven't done much typsetting at all, still working on wording. Thanks again Hex89 for your effort.
ahhh....the movie is hardsubbed in chinese...i can read some of it but its too distracting....as ironic as that may sound..i just DONT need TWO languages i can or can't read..... "there are too many places where the chinese translation missed a nuance that I feel should be emphasized." funny thing is how simplistic chinese subs are compared to eng dub/sub, but eng dub misses out the 'intended' meaning of the words usually, eng sub usually does a lot better in translating everything to a T depending on the people.
This may seem like a dumb question, but why does some of the audio sound blurry, and some I can barely hear? Like in the "Aria's What's this" segment, I couldn't hear anyone besides Aria. I assume it's because of the audio being 5.1 and my headphones being 2, but I don't know how to check if that's the case, or how to fix it. Thanks.
@MerkuryNj The audio is stereo, not 5.1. Interestingly, it may depend on the video player you're using. It played fine for me on VLC and mpv, but not when using the Aegisub integrated video player. No idea why though.
Oddly enough the bad audio sections (all the "What's This" and similar sections with Aria, Nene, Yokoshima, etc.) are borked for me in both VLC and MPC (from the CCCP pack, which usually is my go-to for flawless playback). Even more strangely, it's only the off-screen responses that are impossible to hear... it's just barely audible static, rather than quiet/garbled speech. A lot of the off-screen audio throughout the movie is very "tin-can" sounding, but most of the time it's not an issue (it may even be intentional)... it's JUST the aforementioned sections that are totally broken. Here's to hoping for a better (and Chinese-hardsub-free) raw in the future. It was strange how hard it was to quickly read the English subs when there was another language below it. Brain overload, I guess. The translation seemed fine for the most part, though I'm excited to see what @ericfromabeno comes up with as the post-movie OAD was spot-on with the flow and tone I'm used to from SYD. Oddities aside, huge thanks for this! Having that gap in my SYD experience was driving me nuts, and I was pleasantly surprised with how the movie turned out. Wasn't really sure how they were going to handle this style of show/manga in movie form.
still plugging away at this. I will have subs at some point. Might actually wait to release when the official BD comes out March 16th... haven't decided yet.
@ericfromabeno keep at it my guy, I've been waiting to watch this movie for almost a year now. I'm looking forward to seeing some great subs.
found an odd problem that only seems to happen with certain subs in MPC home cinema player. One of my typeset "red circle stamp" subs (that Seitokai Yakuindomo is know for using between cuts) looks fine in window mode, but in full screen the words get messed up... they turn upside down. I've never seen anything like it before. It doesn't happen in VLC... but VLC of course cannot handle some of the graphic calculations for things like "suzu head" signs, because for some reason, the current version doesn't seem to support using the GPU.... 9_9 I'm also really curious how some groups have made really fancy karaoke. I only just started using Aegisub about a month ago or two, so I don't have a lot of practice, but it doesn't look like aegisub is set up to do special effects karaoke... I've heard that another piece of software, aftereffects, is useful, but I don't think I've got the patience to learn an even more advanced setup than aegisub.... The movie has the standard opening song, so I just used the UTW opening (though I have made some edits this time) ... I also have all the japanese, romaji, and translations for the ending song of the movie, which is new to me, but I have yet to attempt making anything like karaoke.... I'm thinking it's probably best to keep it simple, and just display the song as lines of text, the way UTW did with the opening song.
anyone around? I'm almost done with my version of the subs... There was a lot of overlap of course. One phrase that I'm waffling about is when Shino calls Tsuda her "spiritual meat slave" (in the literal translation) ... Hex chose to translate this as "spiritual cum dump", which has a lot of advantages as a translation: it fits the story, character, and situation very well. However "niku dorei" carries a certain image of ownership and abuse, while "cum dump" simply implies heavy (dirty) use. I was thinking "whipping boy" because she lashes him with her dirty jokes, or "BDSM gimp boy"... the key is that it can't be a simple word, because the person she's talking to is confused by the phrase. So "spiritual sex slave" is out, because it's too easy to understand, even for a complete innocent. I may just go with "cum dump" because it's hard to top. I've only got the final karaoke to go, so I will be able to put out the subs sometime next week. and the bluray should be out in a couple weeks. Anyway, advice about that one line would be appreciated. Thanks
@ericfromabeno To be honest I couldn't figure out what she was saying, and the Chinese subs were censored as well, so I just went with something that made sense. I think translating it as "gimp" would be more accurate, but with a possible downside that not everyone knows the word. (Not sure about the average audience of SYD, but I had to look it up.) Anyway, お疲れ様です。
When using the word "gimp" you'll either have people that don't know what it is at all, OR you'll have people that immediately picture someone in a "gimp suit" (black latex body suit, zippers on the eyes/mouth, ball-gag, etc). Granted that's precisely what Tsuda is metaphorically, but the term "gimp" just conjures up too specific of an image. It also isn't a very "punchy" word in my opinion. It's an extremely tame way of saying someone is a masochist/slave, which doesn't really fit with Shino's personality. Using "spiritual meat slave" (which I think works just fine, even if some don't like literal translations) or "spiritual cum dumpster" or "spiritual cum slave" holds the same general meaning, but is a much raunchier, raw, and Shino-esque way of putting it.
Ok.... Thanks for your input Hex and SYDFan. After thinking about it, I'll go the literal route and use "meat slave", since it's what she actually said and I can imagine the other girl being confused by the term. Although I still get a chuckle out of cum dump/dumpster. ^_^ You're right about it sounding really Shino-esque ^_^
my .ass file and necessary fonts are up finally, for those of you wanting to see my efforts. I will mux it with a video when a clean BD raw version becomes available in 2-4 weeks (I assume). my version is here: https://nyaa.si/view/1012902
