Kara no Kyoukai, a.k.a. The Garden of Sinners
Movie 01 - Overlooking View
Bluray Encode, 1520x855. (This is the native resolution.) H.264, 10-bit, 4:4:4 subsampling.
Audio provided as Opus in both 5.1 Surround and Stereo (384 kbps for 5.1, 160 kbps for stereo).
While the encode is from the Bluray, the subtitles are from the [gg-TakaJun] release, which so far is only released for the DVD version (to the best of my knowledge).

If you need a video player that can play the file, I recommend playing the video in mpv. It probably will also play fine in MPC-HC (i.e. Media Player Classic). If you try to play it in VLC, something probably won’t work, since VLC works less like a media player and more like an industrial-sized bucket of peanut butter.

This is a v2 release. The first encode I did wasn’t perfect and I’ve gotten a lot better at encoding since then. This still isn’t perfect but it should be a lot better.

Encoding: thebombzen
Typesetting/Translation: [gg-TakaJun]
Timing: [gg-TakaJun] and thebombzen

The plan was to do all seven of the movies one at a time, and then release a batch afterward, but I didn’t get around to the others before v2ing this one. I’ll release the others one-by-one after this, followed by a batch. I’m not sure if I’ll redo them for the batch, but I might.

Didn’t coalgirls use gg-takajun?

Yes, but I believe I did a better job with the encode. I haven’t done ABX comparing the releases though.

y 4:4:4
isn’t the source crap?

Why 4:4:4? Because the source is 1080p and thus contains 540p of chroma information. 4:4:4 preserves all of the chroma information.

Will this look better than ANE’s release?

Thank you, but please finish your ongoing Yome.

Planning on finishing MahouYome. I’m a bit behind, I know.

As for will it look better? I dunno, I haven’t checked tons of existing releases to see if they look better. You could also check :P

@xell17

Coalgirls’ release was dual subs. They had gg-taka as the default, and the retail subs as an alternate sub track.
Honestly, I thought the retail subs were better, but they weren’t made default because they hadn’t been edited at all. I only remember one typo (actually I think it was a homophone error) in them.

I didn’t leave in the retail subs because I figured nobody would want to watch that over TakaJun’s, which I thought were significantly better.

Hey, yours looking less blurry than the ANE’s. Which is good, I think?

Also, your version is missing the fonts.

I’d say it’s worth adding in addtional subtitles “just incase.” It’s not like they’re a big impact on the file size.
Although if you wanted to autistically check and time them I can see it not being worth it.

No it isn’t?

I have the mimetypes listed as font/ttf, which should play correctly in any fairly recent verison of mpv. Which you are using, aren’t you?

@thebombzen If you are gonna do all the movies then you might want to dig a little into the matter of the subtitles. Fortunately for you I just had to go through all that and can save you the trouble, use this: https://coalgirls.wakku.to/2931/kara-no-kyoukai/comment-page-8#comment-32200 and download the one named “Kara no Kyoukai the Garden of sinners 2016 modified subs BD.zip”

You can check the 8 pages of comments if you like but in summary gg-TakaJun are not very good and those are the best available to date, Mirai Fukuin not included.
