This is my first torrent. I'm currently creating what I consider to be a "perfect" version of DBZ by combining the best quality video with the most American English dub options available, for both nostalgic and completionist purposes. I figured I'd share what I've done so far with others. Most elements from this torrent come from other uploaders as mentioned below. This is a WIP - I can share more episodes once I complete them. Video: English Level Set Blu-Rays - these Blu-Rays feature proper 4:3 aspect ratio and solid remastering, unlike the crappier season sets. Unfortunately this source stops at episode 34, so if I continue past that point, I'll switch to Dragon Boxes. (source: Grupa Mirai) Audio - 4 tracks: 1. Japanese Mono Broadcast Audio (source: WinxBloom1980) 2. English 5.1 2005 FUNimation Remastered Dub w/ Kikuchi score (source: my own Dragon Box) 3. English 2.0 2005 FUNimation Remastered Dub w/ Nathan Johnson replacement score (source: DHD) 4. English 2.0 1996 Saban/Ocean Dub (source: WinxBloom1980 with my own edits to sync) Those of you familiar with the original Ocean Studios dub of DBZ know that it was rather heavily edited (the first 53 English episodes correspond to the first 67 original episodes), and so I have attempted to re-sync the audio to the best of my ability, filling in the gaps with the FUNi dub. This is what takes up the bulk of my time as it is a rather laborious process. Comments and feedback are welcome. =============== General Unique ID : 322493096627945965374549533956042392087 (0xF29DE942229B165B5E877624F8240217) Complete name : /Volumes/Video/TV Shows/Dragon Ball Z/Season 01/Dragon.Ball.Z.S01E02.Reunions.1080p.BluRay-iKaos.mkv Format : Matroska Format version : Version 4 / Version 2 File size : 1.57 GiB Duration : 24mn 44s Overall bit rate : 9 094 Kbps Movie name : Dragon Ball Z S01E02 Encoded date : UTC 2017-12-29 20:26:58 Writing application : mkvmerge v19.0.0 ('Brave Captain') 64-bit Writing library : libebml v1.3.5 + libmatroska v1.4.8 Attachments : Funimitation.ttf / FunimitationBoldItalic.ttf / PutoInsanity.ttf / PutoInsanityBoldItalic.ttf Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : Main@L4.1 Format settings : CABAC / 4 Ref Frames Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 4 frames Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 24mn 44s Bit rate : 8 138 Kbps Width : 1 440 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 4:3 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 (24000/1001) fps Standard : NTSC Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.218 Stream size : 1.41 GiB (89%) Title : Video Track Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.709 Transfer characteristics : BT.709 Matrix coefficients : BT.709 Audio #1 ID : 2 Format : AAC Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec Format profile : LC Codec ID : A_AAC-2 Duration : 24mn 44s Bit rate : 96.0 Kbps Channel(s) : 1 channel Channel positions : Front: C Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Frame rate : 46.875 fps (1024 SPF) Compression mode : Lossy Delay relative to video : 20ms Stream size : 16.8 MiB (1%) Title : Japanese Mono Broadcast Audio Language : Japanese Default : Yes Forced : No Audio #2 ID : 3 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Codec ID : A_AC3 Duration : 24mn 42s Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 384 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Frame rate : 31.250 fps (1536 SPF) Bit depth : 16 bits Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 67.9 MiB (4%) Title : English 2005 5.1 FUNi Dub + Kikuchi Score Language : English Service kind : Complete Main Default : No Forced : No Audio #3 ID : 4 Format : AAC Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec Format profile : LC Codec ID : A_AAC-2 Duration : 24mn 13s Bit rate : 158 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : Front: L R Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Frame rate : 46.875 fps (1024 SPF) Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 27.4 MiB (2%) Title : English 2005 2.0 FUNi Dub + Johnson Score Language : English Default : No Forced : No Audio #4 ID : 5 Format : AAC Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec Format profile : LC Codec ID : A_AAC-2 Duration : 24mn 44s Bit rate : 317 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : Front: L R Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Frame rate : 46.875 fps (1024 SPF) Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 56.2 MiB (3%) Title : English 1996 2.0 Saban/Ocean Dub (edited) Language : English Default : No Forced : No Text ID : 6 Format : ASS Codec ID : S_TEXT/ASS Codec ID/Info : Advanced Sub Station Alpha Duration : 24mn 29s Bit rate : 146 bps Count of elements : 348 Compression mode : Lossless Stream size : 26.3 KiB (0%) Title : English Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No Menu 00:00:00.000 : en:Chapter 01 00:01:50.110 : en:Chapter 02 00:11:23.683 : en:Chapter 03 00:22:34.319 : en:Chapter 04 00:24:11.450 : en:Chapter 05

Can I get MediaInfo please?

MediaInfo added above.
Is it possible to encode it in 10 bit for your future releases?
Whoa! Gonna download this for an uncut Ocean Dub viewing. :) Thanks.
iKaos, DBZ Level episodes exist until 039 as they were released on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. You can find encodes on Nyaa of 036-039 but not sure about raw ones. Thanks so much!

I'll look into 10-bit although my source is 8-bit so I don't know how much it will help. The only reason I have to re-encode from the original source is because I have to paste the NEPs onto the end of each episode to line up with the Broadcast/Dragon Box audio. I actually do have the 036-039 Level footage, I just didn't mention it above for simplicity's sake. Once I get to that point, I'll use it. I'd kill for raws or isos of the Level sets though.
Planned on remuxing your release as with the Ocean Dub solely but turns out there isn't much point to it. Original File Size: 1.58 GB Ocean Dub-Only: 1.47 GB Not a big deal, it's a brilliant package and the Japanese broadcast audio is always welcome, in addition. :)

This was really a test release to gauge interest. I've been playing with encoding settings so that in the next one and the v2, the episodes will be 10-bit and smaller. No use in the bitrate being so high if the original source isn't that high.
The higher bitrate can help improve color banding and give slightly smaller file size (which can really help with DBZ since it's a large show) with higher quality. You can check Kametsu since they know more about this info then I do. Just keep it in consideration is all I'm asking.
Ok, the Funimation Dub with the Kikuchi score has some bad timing on the audio but I only tested this with Episode 4.

Whoa, you're right. I spot checked the others and it looks like it's the only one, and only that particular track. Disappointing. Most of my time was spent checking the Ocean dub and I just assumed English audio syncs the same across US releases. I'll verify going forward and release a fixed one with the next batch. Thanks.
iKaos, here I have some nice quality Rock the Dragon theme if you want to use them: https://mega.nz/#!KEEmkaBR!ikUyI7YDyU9vm9rCgltzYoCRlhHtuYwxsafUQa5hbpY https://mega.nz/#!7ZMyEaSC!cQmw8LSJLt9G5jCxXJQaz8j6a1s5mMr-edrsh9Mdt6A If I recall correctly, I ripped these directly from the Budokai disc.
hey can you use [WinxBloom1980] footage after episode 39, i think they look better than Grupa Mirai, btw love your work
I uploaded the raws on mega when I shared the 35-39 for grupa and others on kametsu. https://mega.nz/#F!2F4k3LSJ !rUGFhIhabJ2kZPmdCNlYQQ
Can more people seed please.
@Trunks9us so the link is for raws 35-39 eps ?
Yea its 20 gigs its the biggest raw I could get... Meaning the guy I talked to who originally captured these these files were very much bigger before all the editing happened to make the video work. There was a big description on how all this was handled but the website went down so I can't copy and paste the info. But I will get ahold of the guy who wrote it and get him to re explain to me the process that way I can get you to understand better. From my understanding when i did read it, was very difficult to put this all together to make to look correctly. Alot of editing took into place making the actual original raws probably in the 100+ gigs category where from what i remember the original poster saying he didn't have anymore because it was so messed up.
The episodes were cut together from multiple captures Arian did (from memory, it was 3-4 for each episode) cause there was random frame dropping in areas, even on a high end PC from what he told me. Originally it was one but it had different results on all of them, so I took the best from each and put them together. There was even moments where Xbox pop-ups came up when someone was online etc. The ending credits were redone using the Blu-ray textless version cause the Xbox version had hardcoded subtitles and it was slightly softer. Also rotoscoped out one hardcoded subtitle saying "Science" at the top when it pans up to Gohan's book in the hospital. The episodes were also synced to the Dolby True-HD tracks from the cropped Season BDs so I could sync it without touching the audio, cause True-HD is a fucking pain in the ass and no programs I know of that can edit it.. As well as reasons like those errors, hardcoded subtitles, syncing to BD audio, the captures were unnecessarily big for a delivery version, being 50-60mbps for something that was compressed to begin with.
thank you for the explanation, so in a nutshell this is a capture of the 5 last episodes from season 1 (saiyan saga) from xbox platforme, the capture was done several times and synced the good version for every segment of the video, that's a lot of work thank you, but i wanna know which program you used for capturing ( or which capture card if it was done by hardware ) also did you re-encode the video from 60mbps to 20 as it is presented on mega folder ? that should have decreased the quality a little bit...and why all the episodes are together on a single file and not separated ? i did not download the bd folder yet but i assume it was done in a different way than funimation as they make a separate file for every episode...this release has a lot of mysteries...thank you again sir
I took the eps down recently cause i needed the space but I did not make that i just got a quick detailed explanation from the guy who did. He actually had a 2 page right up of the whole reason why but the the reason they were not split up was due to these were made for a custom bluray for the remaining eps with covers scans and menus intros etc
This is simply amazing and unbelievable! 1080p , 4:3... Was looking for this for years now... Great job! Praise for you! Got sick of 16:9 cropped episodes!
