Just finished watching this the other day. Video quality is AMAZING on my oled tv compared to other anime, I'm not sure if it's the show itself or the work you did enhancing it, but I found the video quality to be perfect.
However...
The subtitles are really bad. I haven't had to play/pause/rewind as much with a show as I did this one. Let me explain so I'm not just btching: there are three subtitle options, one for signs/songs, one with the custom font, and one generic set for everything. The one for signs/songs is probably fine, Idk, I assume this subtitle set is for japanese speakers. The second one with the custom font could have been really good, but the problem with this subtitle set is that it doesn't subtitle the written words which show up CONSTANTLY in this particular show, particularly on the cell phone diaries the characters are constantly looking at and showing to the screen, so essentially, you're missing about 40-50% of the information of the show if you choose this set and can't read japanese.
Which brings me to the third set which I also have a few things to say about. First of all, while it does subtitle the phone screen contents, it does it FAR too short of a time, it's basically a one frame flash of subtitles, making it a massive pain in the ass to even find the correct moment to pause the screen. Now I understand some of the scenes themselves don't last very long, but the subtitles don't even stay the full amount of time the phone contents are on the screen. The timing should be extended in these instances. This also happens with dialogue that plays out while these scenes are on screen, as soon as the subtitles are gone for the written words, the dialogue that was playing during the written words only flash for like a frame or two before disappearing, leading again to me having to play a game of "see if I can pause at exactly the correct frame" to read the dialogue.
In addition to the above, some dialogue/on-screen written words (about 10% or less if I had to guess) doesn't even get subbed, not even for a frame. One more issue, although it's relatively small and something I can work around but should be mentioned, for some lines, the subtitles are blurry/warped in certain areas. They're barely readable, so it's not a massive issue, but it is worth mentioning.
None of these issues exist with the OVA fyi.
I don't mean to be disrespectful about any of this, merely to inform you/other commenters what they might be in for. These poor subtitles drastically affected my enjoyment of the show (along with plex and its poor seeking tracking which constantly fast forwarded when I was trying to rewind, but the issues mentioned above exist regardless of whether I used plex to play them).
The visuals are amazing though, the audio is really good and very clear. It's just the subtitles that need fixing. If I could suggest the way I would fix it, I would simply add written subtitles to the custom font subtitle set (making sure the subtitles stayed on screen as long as the written dialogue did) while having the spoken dialogue on top or bottom (with the written on the opposite side), and that would fix the issue.
If the op is not interested in improving or fixing the original release, then if nothing else, I recommend to users who download this (who don't speak japanese) to find an alternate subtitle set for this show. I definitely would recommend doing so with this release though, as the visuals are really freaking good.
I can confirm what jacksmithfuturama is saying. I don't know where the retail subs are from as the second subs which have custom fond should be subs from the official BD, as both Cleo and AnimeRG have these same subs. However, the other 2 uploads have the entries for the diary when it is on screen, while this one doesn't. It has the best video quality because of the enhancement but the worst subs for some reason. 1st sub is if you watch the anime dubbed, 3rd subs I don't know where they are from but are the ones you would probably want to watch but 2nd subs are probably official release but lack the diary entries which is confusing because of reasons mentioned above.
Reviewing the videos in detail, I can say that the color quality is better, but the lines are not. The filter you applied warps the lines of many objects. Hopefully you can apply the settings you applied in your "Filtered" version of Elfen Lied. That version is amazing.
As others have pointed out above: good video, terrible subs- though the second non-retail English is good enough albeit without sign/songs.
Just switch the second subs to the first or third sub track to see signs and songs.
AnimeRG's release (https://nyaa.si/view/1030983) has the same subs, but with the signs and songs hardsubbed.
I'll just switch to the first sub track to see the signs. Video quality is better than the original after all.
