@encoreblade Sorry to hear about that, but there doesn't appear to be that kind of issue on our side. However, VLC is known to have some issues when it comes to playing these kinds of files - have you considered using Media Player Classic? That seems to be the best program for subtitled mkv files. That I know of, at least.
@ChunChunMaruSub I've been able and am still able to watch other sub released anime using VLC just fine. For some reason though, these episodes are not displaying the subtitles at all. I can choose which subs to load and things like that, but no matter what I choose, no subtitles are actually showing up. I can't use Media Player Classic cause I'm using a Macbook Pro.

@encoreblade Then I have to admit that I'm completely stumped. We don't normally do this, but if you'd be fine with a hardsubbed version - as in, you can't choose to turn off the subtitles - then we can provide you with that. I realise that it's not the preferred option, but when all fails...
@encoreblade stop using shit software like VLC. It sucks. No, you weren't watching them just fine. you simply didn't know they would look better with actually good player. Ideal scenario would be to stop using shit hardware like Mac as well but I'll assume you are too stubborn for that so at least grab mpv player and don't torture your eyes with VLC any longer.
@ChunChunMaruSub: If you get a chance to jump over to AnimeTosho, open this same episode and look at the screen shots for it. Alone there nothing special. But with subtitles mixed in, They completely change into something else. And thanks for sharing. @Progeusz I've been saying VLC is a shitty player for years. It's great to see someone else saying for a change. For some reason people think its great and have no complaints.
