I saw the premise, saw the character art, and figured this was either going to be super boring or awkward as hell. How wrong I was, and how happy I was to be wrong. Frequently entertaining and surprisingly compelling, Spice & Wolf is a true treasure. I'm not going to say it's for everyone; it's certainly a niche show in many regards. However, give it a chance and you might be surprised. I've put together both seasons of the show for release today. For season one, this will be 720p-only. The original release of Spice & Wolf was not made in HD. The JPBD was remastered to that resolution, but 1080p is completely unnecessary, and no perfect 1080p encodes exist. However, we do have a fantastic encode from Baal, available here at Kametsu. My version of Baal's release isn't particularly special, but I have upgraded his audio to lossless to create a final definitive version of season 1. Subs for season one also come from him, as a restyled version of Cman's subtitle release. For season two, it gets a little more complicated. After comparing a pretty wide stack of releases, I've elected to go with Zurako's 1080p release. This was the only 10-bit release at the quality we found acceptable. While a 10-bit encode is coming from one of my usual favorites (Beatrice-Raws), based on their results with season 1 only a few months ago, I'm not expecting much (banding and other problems, definitely inferior to Baal). Zurako did not do a 1080p, but in 720p we have an excellent replacement in lleur. This release was originally dual-audio, but it only included 2.0 English audio, which just won't do. I've upgraded it to AAC 5.1 as it should be, ripped from the USBD. For season two subtitles, it's again a little complex. I've merged a few releases here to create what I think are the best available set. The OP/ED come from Elysium, who had a full timed karaoke set with romaji and kanji. I've resized it slightly to fit better, but otherwise it's mostly untouched. The subtitles come from Zurako's script, which is based on the official R1 subs. I've restyled it to match Baal's subs from season 1 for a consistent feel throughout the series (even though I won't be watching them. J. Michael Tatum and Brina Palencia? 100% yes). Finally, I've included the official PGS subs from Funimation as a bonus. This applies to both season 1 and 2. I love this show. Enjoy.
