Episode 469-480
This is a complicated release unlike the SD one. As you all know, One Piece needs to be either CFR 30fps or VFR with a max of 30fps to look right as of episode 459. This rules out every webrip as a source for the 720p version since they all run at CFR 24fps. I found a torrent on nyaa that has VFR 30ffps HDTV encodes. That is what I used up to episode 477. On that episode, the torrent starts using this Chinese source that doesn't cut out the advertising between the OP and recap. This causes a lot of syncing issues that I don't want to deal with. Also it has Chinese hardsubs for the OP which is annoying. So I went and found transport streams of as many episodes 459+ as I could. My original goal was to do my own encodes for everything and release a new version of V8\_1. I have been trying to find all of them for a week and a half and I just can't. At least I was able to find 477-480.
So 469-476 are VFR max 30fps that were encoded by... well I don't know actually. There's no information on the encoder. 477-480 are encoded by me. These episodes weren't too bad in terms of artifacts, but some of the earlier episodes have some really bad scenes. I don't know if it was the ripper's fault or if the tv broadcast just looks that bad and I don't know enough avisynth magic to fix it well. Anyway, it shouldn't be a problem on these episodes.
The other issue (but wait, there's more!) is that 477-480 don't even include a full episode preview at the end. My options were to cut it completely or append HorribleSubs episode preview. I chose the latter. This may cause some serious problems for some people since the HorribleSubs stuff is 8 bit and the wrong framerate. I'm not even sure why anything plays it, but MPC-HC with LAV filters did. As far as I can tell, not even the original broadcast back in 2010 had a full episode preview (see yibis releases), so this is really the best you're going to get. If a lot of people have problems with it this way, I will do an encode where I transcode HorribleSubs rip into 10-bit and do some kind of frame interpolation to get the right framerate. I really don't want to because I hate transcoding even more than mixing sources.
I just noticed that what mkvmerge probably did was just change the video from CFR 30fps to VFR and inserted timecodes for the 24fps part and that's why it plays normally. I still don't know why the 8-bit part doesn't cause a problem.
If you know where to find One Piece Japanese broadcast transport streams for episodes 460, 461, 474, 485, 487, 489, 490, and 493, please contact me! I found transport streams for every other episode between 459 and 498 (499 is airing on September 11th). If you live in Japan and you are interested in capturing the transport stream for One Piece for me, contact me. You would need to have access to to the BS-FUJI terrestrial channel and have some way of capturing the transport stream to a file on your computer then uploading it to me. You would need some kind of capture card that can receive over the air signals to be able to capture the stream. My current source is Perfect Dark, but as you can see they are not all up there or I don't know how to use it right or something.
