_After much criticism and debate, I've settled on these encodes as representative of the remaining encodes when the boxset becomes more widely available. Those who don't know what I'm talking about, don't need to know._ I resisted uploading this as its own torrent because I wanted to have only one batch, but since some people have asked and I'd like to make it known that I'm actually doing it this time, here it is. **Unlike my DVD release, this is fully subbed.** To mitigate any issues in porting the DVD rip work to the BD, I prepatched my 2D4U release with the oh-so-popular Bloat patch, and worked off the fixes established there. Bloat's sub timing is extremely good, so I had very little work to do there, but I did restyle everything, so they should be easier on the eyes. The audio is also properly synced as the Japanese tracks are straight off the BD, while the dub has been synced manually in Audition (measured delays based on track alignment, with actual delay values applied to the original AC3, so there's no cutting or re-encoding going on). Again, the Bloat patch does most of this work, but I've gone over it myself to make sure it works. Finally, the big one: Video. I'm not happy with this remaster, really, I'm not. It's better than the Renewal discs, but the DNR is inconsistent between scenes, and I can't say the result is pleasing. Overall, the picture is nice and grainy, but some shots suffer from a form of DNR that leaves ringing around the line work. I tried to counteract this, and while an older encode had suffered from detail loss, I'm confident that the version here strikes a good balance between edge cleaning and line retention. I've also cleaned the grain **strictly in the chroma channels**, as I'm not a fan of heavy, low frequency chroma grain. It helps compressibility a decent bit too. The biggest surprise to me (and others) was that despite this being a 16mm show, it actually does hold detail into 1080p that is reflected in this transfer. For that reason, I've kept this as a 1080p release, despite my earlier intentions. A note on the color: A statement from Sony PCL mentioned that they were provided explicit notes from the 2003 Renewal project on how to go about restoring this BD version. This makes sense in a few ways, the most obvious being frame restoration and timing (remember, Renewal had changes from the broadcast version that would have to be recreated for this, theoretically). However, Sony was also instructed to color grade the new BD master to the colors of the 2003 version, which to me, comes off as backwards and unfulfilled. Like the DVDs, this new BD has the same yellowish/green tint, and though it may not be too noticeable, it's there, and I felt compelled to reduce it. I will re-examine this correction on a per-episode basis, as I recall a similar correction attempt to produce inconsistent results on the DVDs (future episodes didn't seem as affected). That's it! VIDEO: H.264 10bit @ CRF18. AUDIO: Japanese 5.1/2.0 FLAC, English 5.1 AC3 (From Platinum DVDs) SUBS: English Subs (Restyled Bloat from Platinum DVDs) One final note: The NCOP/ED files on the BD lacked their respective 5.1 tracks, so I have synced them from the episode itself for this release. Enjoy.
