I knew this would be good, but I had no idea that it would look \*this\* good. Outlaw Star is, to my knowledge, Sunrise's best BD transfer to date. Completely free of DNR, and with colors that will simply blow you away, this is one of the best transfers I've ever seen. Originally, I thought that they would recycle the 2006 HD master that was used on the DVD remaster release, but they apparently took it a step further and retransferred the show again. Comparisons online reveal that the credits have been redone with slightly different positioning and typeface between the two versions, which hints at a brand new transfer. Since this is free of DNR, it's naturally FULL of grain, making this a very difficult show to compress. Add to that the sheer level of detail in each frame (it's razor sharp), and it was difficult. In trying to get these down to a somewhat-sane file size, I did apply my own degraining, but it should have preserved the grainy appearance for the most part, and does very little to the overall detail. I think it's a pleasing level personally. So what's the deal here? The video is obviously the new 2014 BDs, as is the Japanese audio, but the English dub and sub tracks come from the fairly recent R2UK release, which recycled the old R1 translations. The advantage is that the R2UK release uses a higher bitrate audio track, and the subtitles are (possibly) better timed. The dub has been manually cut and resynced to the BD, while the subs have similarly been adjusted and styled up. The R2UK, which used the remaster as its base, still did not take the time to resync the dub, meaning I had to do it. Here it is, as good as it gets.
