Nous sommes en 1966, sur l’île de Kyushu au sud du Japon.
Le jeune Kaoru Nishima déménage chez des parents éloignés et est
transféré au lycée local. Bon élève mais plutôt réservé,
il a une vraie difficulté à s’intégrer et se réfugie dans la solitude.
Sa rencontre avec Sentarô Kawabuchi, le délinquant notoire du coin,
va bouleverser sa vie.

Ce dernier est en effet passionné de jazz et Kaoru se retrouvera
presque malgré lui à partager son univers. La musique leur permettra
de dépasser leurs différences et les deux jeunes gens noueront
alors une véritable relation de camaraderie, se soutenant l’un l’autre
dans ce grand morceau de l’adolescence.
