So this encode stems from the R3 release of the 2006 remaster of Gundam 0083. I avoided the remaster for a long time because it isn't a \*huge\* leap over the 2000 remaster, and the remixed soundtracks are absolutely disgusting. That said, the remaster has better color balance, encoding, grain structure, and no aliasing. Like the Blu-ray for Last Blitz of Zeon, however, it suffers from severe underexposure/shitty color grading. See my post there for more details on the color. I actually encoded this OVA prior to Last Blitz, so my experience in color correcting 0083 has evolved along the way. The first four episodes are perhaps a bit too saturated, but it beats the hell out the original in my opinion. The hefty bitrate of the R3s allowed some pretty significant changes to the shadows without breaking up much. I promised this a few months back, and a few of you might have been aware that the main OVA itself has been done since May, available on Mega. What held me back from making a torrent was the unavailability of the Cima Special - something I haven't encoded since 2006. It's included here, with a big caveat: It's not remastered. The R3 lacks the Cima Special, which initially made me hunt for the R2s. Unfortunately, they've become quite difficult to track down in their original, uncompressed form on Share. Time flew by, and I just decided to do what I could with the R1. I've color balanced it as best as I could to the warmer palette of the remaster, and reduced the aliasing. Lastly, and this is important, the audio prioritizes the original stereo mix, like I did with 08th MS Team. The 2006 remix uses new voice recordings, resynthesized BGM, and inconsistent sound effects. The OP remixes aren't too bad, but they do have a few slight embellishments that weren't in the original. The surround audio here has been sourced from the DTS tracks available on the R3, as opposed to the Dolby tracks on the R2. The original stereo audio has been appropriately downmixed from the R1's upmixed tracks. Yes, the dub is included too, making this a triple audio release. Syncing all three of these tracks was laborious, to say the least, since the sound effects differ between each track, and I could not rely on phase cancellation to determine how synced the audio was. Why all the work for a DVD version though? Simple. Those Blu-rays are coming eventually, and I want to be ready. Video: H.264 10bit @ CRF17 Audio: Japanese/English 2ch AAC (R1), Japanese 6ch AAC (R3 DTS) Subs: .ass (R1)
