I started writing a story about Tamayura, but Eien finished early, so I stopped. Here it is: It was September, 2011. The weather was ideal for anyone who actually spent time outside, rather than in front of their computer screen, staring into the endless abyss known as the Internet. This time of month was known as the "deciding time" for fansubbers. When everyone gathers around to discuss what anime they would like to work on for the fall season. For UTW, one show in particular was a given: Fate/Zero. Kusion had always been an anomaly. You never really knew what was going on inside his head. Many times, he would pick up a show after it had already aired and find a staff willing to work with him throughout it. He would volunteer his services to shows that he knew nothing of. He would even, if desperate enough, threaten to work on a show alone if no one were to assist him. And, due to the reputation of UTW being at stake, he would usually get some help then. He was a strange fellow, that Kusion. After the polls were run, and the shows for the fall season were decided, UTW started its next few months of self-hatred, working on shows such as: THE iDOLM@STER, Fate/Zero, and C3. Kusion, however, was not satisfied. He longed for one more show. One show to torture the staff, and the viewers. This show was Tamayura: hitotose, or Tamayura: The First. Tamayura had started off as an OVA back in 2010 before it became an actual TV series. Kusion knew he could not do Tamayura alone. Translating it by himself, without anyone to check his work, was truly worrisome. "Oh, wait!" Kusion shouted, having come up with an idea. "I can ask around in a few staff channels I'm in. Maybe someone will agree to help me." After mustering up the courage, Kusion began going through every staff channel he had been a part of, asking if any translators would be willing to assist him in this battle. There was a highlight in #Yabai-staff from a fellow named fotc. "Sure, Kusion," said fotc. "I enjoyed the OVAs. I don't mind working on the show." Kusion, at this time, did not really know fotc too well. He knew he was a translator, but that was about it. They had not spoken much before. But with a show he enjoyed on the line, Kusion could not turn down this opportunity. "I just want you to know that I'm a pretty slow translator," said Kusion, warning fotc of his speed just in case he wished to back out now. "Not to mention, my Japanese isn't too great, either." "Don't worry about it. We'll get through this together," said fotc, in a calming tone. "By the end of it, you'll learn some Japanese too." "I'll need to find someone to encode this," said Kusion, as he tried to think of a possible candidate. "Maybe ar can help?" Kusion scurried off to the UTW staff channel to ask ar for his help. "I kind of don't want to," said ar, politely declining Kusion's request. "I already have so much to work on, not to mention it airs at an annoying time." "You can take your time with it," said Kusion. "It'll be my translation, so I don't really expect to have it released within a day anyway." There was a long pause. Clearly, ar had started to consider it. It was vital that Kusion had his help, or the help of any encoder, really. How else would they work on the show? Using a share raw was unheard of. "I suppose," said ar, reluctantly. "I can have it ready by Wednesday at the latest, if that's okay." "Perfect!" shouted Kusion. "I can probably typeset and time it myself too. I can't imagine it being too hard." "Do whatever you want, mate," said ar. "I'm off for now. Don't forget when it airs." "I won't!" Kusion went off to tell fotc that ar agreed.
