Here's another classic 80s J-Drama for you. Daiei TV's *Aries no Otometachi*. As a big fan of Sukeban shows, seeing familiar faces like Yoko Minamino and Haruko Sagara from *Sukeban Deka II* and Sakura Shiori from *Hana no Asuka-gumi* was the thing that first piqued my interest about Aries. It was more than enough motivation for me to take on the project as my very first Daiei drama fansub, and the one that made me fall in love with their shows, pushing me into subbing several more.
This show made me develop a soft spot for Daiei's brand of melodrama involving fate-driven romances, forbidden relationships, wild twists, heightened emotional showdowns, that classic "love vs. destiny" theme, and of course the elite-school rivalries and delinquent shenanigans that crank the tension up to the max. If you've seen any of the other Daiei shows that I've subbed, you'll definitely spot a few familiar faces here. Fans of Japanese cult cinema should recognize Meiko Kaji once again.
I'm also excited to say that this release comes from a vastly improved encode sourced directly from the original DVDs. It's properly deinterlaced and includes the full 45:22 runtime with the opening intact, something that many of the copies circulating online are missing. Huge thanks goes to **NUREN²** for sharing the extremely rare, out-of-print DVD box sets. This preservation effort wouldn't have been possible without NUREN's invaluable contribution. Enjoy!
