The 4 BD episodes are clearly superior to the pre-existing Jackoneill copies but the DVD Jackoneill of the Mizukake special might be better, hence
Comparisons:

I don't know if **(sample)** is the tag of the original BD release on here but his files all had it so I used it instead of having it nameless.
So for the ultimate experience, get this (2006 OVA), *maybe [Jackoneill's special](https://nyaa.si/view/962678) (still from the 2006 OVA) if you prefer his copy over the one here*, get [[ANE]'s 576p DVD (2008) + OAD (2009)](https://nyaa.si/view/1487801) (the OAD is 4 episodes + 1 special in one file to save you the trouble of researching) + [adjusted [ANE] subs](https://kitsunekko.net/subtitles/Kyou%20no%20Go%20no%20Ni%20(2008)/[ANE]%20Kyou%20no%205%20no%202%20(TV)%20_%20Today%20in%20Class%205-2%20(DVD%20x264%208-bit%201024x576%20AC3%202.0)%20+%202009%20OAD,%20FIXED%20%EF%BC%A0%E5%B0%8F%E5%A1%9A%20FONT%20NAME%20IN%20STYLES,%20IGNORE%2071MB%20VERSION.rar) + [[ANE] OAD subs styling fix](https://kitsunekko.net/subtitles/Kyou%20no%20Go%20no%20Ni%20(2008)/[ANE]%20Kyou%20no%20Go%20no%20Ni%20Takarabako%20OAD%20(DVD%201024x576%20x264%20AC-3)%20CHANGED%20DEFAULT%20SUBS%20COLOURING%20(USE%20THIS%20INSTEAD%20OF%20BUNDLED%20VERSION).rar)
i just checked animetosho https://animetosho.org/view/sample-jackoneill-kyou-no-go-ni-2006-ova.n2021022 and apparently the screenshots are all garbled white and green mess
i played it on mpv and got the same results
works perfectly on k-lite though
The playing issue its a problem with Libav (used by VLC, FFMPEG... to decode h264) and an old version of x264 (<151), found a similar issue in [GitHub](https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-ffmpeg/issues/47), it had a solution without re-encoding that I tried and it worked, I created a batch with a simplified version of the solution to apply it:
```
@:LOOP
ffmpeg -i "%1" -map 0 -c copy -bsf:v h264_metadata="sei_user_data=dc45e9bde6d948b7962cd820d923eeef+x264 - core 148 r2721+55 e19946b t_mod_Custom [10-bit@all X86_64]" -y "%~dpn1-fixed.mkv"
@shift
@if not (%1)==() goto LOOP
pause
```
It needs ffmpeg to work, possibly there is a need to change it with the correct ffmpeg path for it to work, you can drop various files to it and then it generates the fixed files.
