I think with Franky it’s like… They figured Yao’s performance was kind of peerless and so they didn’t even try to have Kimura mimic it, instead just opting for someone who could match Franky’s general attitude. It is jarring though, for sure… But then Yao’s performance in the past several years was also very obviously compromised. So for us the audience it’s a bit of a pick your poison situation… For Yao himself it may have just been that he saw no choice but to retire since he just physically could not do the role anymore.
