RAW BDMV rip of the Japanese SDBD. The video files do have DVD encoding but they does look marginally better than the current DVD rips floating around.
No subs of course, not even closed captions, but it’s probably relatively easy to stick some subs on here from something else.
Now if only a fansubber would redo the subs from scratch cuz the current ones out there are quite awful…

Considering most rips of Tenchi TV out there were done 10-20 years ago and used the R1 DVD as the source this should look better. I have the R2J discs somewhere and they were a bit better than the R1 discs. I wonder if they upgraded anything here, like maybe having a higher bitrate on the audio. The Dual Runrun Monogatari R2J DVDs and SDBD were identical. Same resolution, both interlaced, identical audio tracks.
I remember Pioneer’s R1 subs from around this time not being that bad, save for lack of honorifics. Definitely better than most commercial companies and “localizers” that try to rewrite everything. If I ever get around to finishing my subs on OVA4 and OVA5 maybe I’ll take a stab at it someday. Compared to Kajishima’s stuff it’s pretty mid so don’t hold your breath.

I have an intermediate Japanese ability but even then there were several parts where I could tell the subs were just kinda meh. I remember them translating “kappa” as “water sprite”, for the first or second movie they translate “setsubun” as “oriental midsummer festival” or something, etc.
With that being said tho you are completely right about this show overall being pretty mediocre compared to the Kajishima OVAs. If you’re gonna spend any fansubbing effort on Tenchi Muyo please focus on OVA 1 and 2 first lmao
