I love this game, don't know about the anime yet, I think the anime shouldn't have followed the game directly, in the game the pleasure came from exploration, leveling up skills and weapons, and enjoying the amazing visuals back in the day when they released it. The music especially. The anime should probably have been in it's own way unique and new story.
I wish they made a sequel to Nier Automata video game, that would be incredible to play through with an open world rpg, but not mmo or anything like that, just open world single player or upto 4 player online exploring the world together and pickup drops much like nioh2 game mechanics have. Insane dopamine that would be.
