Yet, impressively, still better than what was generally translated to Chinese and then the Chinese script was translated to English by people who definitely did not speak English natively. I remember I had this bootleg DVD of KareKano that was just atrocious. I am not sure how people who don’t know at least a little Japanese could have watched it honestly lol

It’s sad that real fansubbers no longer exist. Its either people who rip CR/Hidive or Disney+ subs or those that use MTL.Though I will say ChatGPT is getting a scarily accurate in translating Japanese. It’s better than things like Google Translate or DeepL. Though,I’d kind of still want a normal fansubber to do anime(as long as there are no woke translators). I will say this MTL is okay at best. There will be like 3 lines of good translation followed by a bad translation of 1 line. This repeats throughout the whole episode. I say the best way to do rush job translation of an episode for people that have no experience or knowledge of the Japanese language or fine details of culture is to somehow to get someone to record the Japanese raw footage with Japanese closed captions. That way there will be printed versions of the dialogue. Then take that text and run it through ChatGPT. Using MTL to try to convert voice to actual text doesn’t work well. Personally I’m waiting for there to be a resurgence of real fansubbers, but my hopes are just keep less and less each year.

You could use manga as a base for translation and yet you didn’t.

I edited these subs (for a friend) to the best of my Japanese knowledge. Nowhere near 100% accurate, but should be much better than the original one. Should be fine for a quick watch, for those who still can’t wait till the official release on Sunday.
