Translation by Perevodildo Raws and quality checking by WOWmd, who bought and ripped the VHS sets after I whined for years about the lack of good raws for this show... And then also agreed to QC my wonky English! Used raw and translated parts of the source manga for this project, ripped by me and available [here](https://nyaa.si/view/1696793). We present to you, Japan Inc. - the 25-episode documentary on Japanese economy from 1987, the height of the bubble era, when there still wasn't any end to this party in sight. The only existing rip for this show was a horrendous VHS capture with audio track encoded in the whopping 44kbps and .mp3 to top it off until WOWmd came in clutch. Moreover, considering how Tokyo Lab had reportedly destroyed the remains of their film archives unclaimed by their respective rightholders in October 2023 (which may have included this anime as well, since Studio Knack had been defunct for ages now), there's little hope of any better source than a VHS tape ever appearing. However, this new raw comes with a caveat: unlike with the old recordings of a TV broadcast, there is one opening at the beginning of the tape and one ending at the end, with 4 episodes of the show itself going uninterrupted one after another in the middle with no next episode previews whatsoever. The same goes for eyecatches. Long story short, I judged that retiming the subs to this new format is easier than jumping through all the hoops of video reediting. I did, however, add chapters to the file so that you can navigate between the episodes. If this Solomonic solution of mine ruffles your feathers, be my guest to slice the video into episodes, opening/ending, NEPs and eyecatches and stich them all back together into a normal sequence of "op-episodepart1-eyecatchpart1-eyecatchpart2-episodepart2-reencodedNEPfromoldraws-ed", oh and did I mention you need to audio-sync all of it? [My old release of the first 2 episodes](https://nyaa.si/view/1698069) Abbreviations and explanations for the translation: • Throughout the series, the characters repeatedly call Yuki (Kenshiro guy) a "madogiwazoku" (literally "window side tribe"). This is a specific Japanese term from the bubble era, referring to the company employees that were once considered useful to the company, but had, since then, lost that quality. However, due to the Japanese custom of lifetime employment, laying them off was considered unethical, therefore such employees were allowed to while away their time until retirement doing menial, unqualified work, reading the newspaper, or, well, sitting by the window. After the bubble burst, and the economy plunged into stagnation, the companies could no longer afford to keep such deadweight workers. You can read more on that [here](https://japanintercultural.com/free-resources/articles/oidashibeya-japanese-purgatory/). Depending on the context, in this sub, I was translating it either as "pen-pusher" or "window-starer". • MOF = Ministry of Finance. • BOJ = Bank of Japan. • IMF = International Monetary Fund. • FRB = Federal Reserve Board = The Fed. • MBA = Master's [degree] in Business Administration. • Compatible = computer built by one company that can run software programs written for another company’s computer - another term from the 80s, because yes, there was a time when it wasn't a given. • P Country = Iran. • ABI = IBM (yes, the IRL company). • Shikitsu = Shikishima Tsuushin = Fujitsu (yes, the IRL company). • Big iron = mainframe, a failsafe computer, more powerful than a server, but less than a supercomputer - was just "big scale machine" in Japanese, probably because the term was not yet in wide circulation. • MITI = Ministry of International Trade and Industry. • The City = economical district of London. Britain's Wall Street, if you will. • Kabutocho = economical district of Tokyo. Japan's Wall Street, if you will. • NTT = Nippon Telegraph & Telephone, essentially Japanese AT&T. • MT = Manhattan Trust. • Hayate Motor Company = Toyota (only in episode 1) Episodes: 1. Japan-US Trade Frictions 2. Exchange Game 3. Internationalization of Finance 4. Shares: New Breed Market [AniDB](https://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=6498) | [Subs only](https://github.com/Perevodildo/Perevodildo-softsubs/tree/master/Manga%20Nihon%20Keizai%20Nyuumon)
