That said, it’s only become a trend fairly recently due to people in Japan finally starting to get a bit sick of the cookie-cutter Dragon Quest rip-offs that most fantasy anime have been since time immemorial. Naturally, the solution to that is to twist the Dragon Quest formula slightly.
