# Violet Evergarden: The Movie ![violet-movie](https://www.themoviedb.org/t/p/original/fwSonK8WrAEqWY7sqjvGRCgzIij.jpg) **[MAL](https://myanimelist.net/anime/37987)** ## [MediaInfo](https://paste.sh/FcgjrlKK#7vU8kYMce29vU0CnyYEcrevJ) ---- **Source:** [Baws](https://nyaa.si/view/1611327) **Video:** 2160p AV1 10bit DV HDR10 **HDR Format:** Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dav1.10.06, BL+RPU, HDR10 compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible **Audio:** Japanese 7.1 (384k Opus) & English 5.1 (192k Opus) **Subtitles:** English (Full Subtitles), English (Signs & Songs), English (Full Subtitles HDR) [USBD], Indonesian [Yurasub], Arabic [Itunes], Arabic [Netflix], Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Croatian, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese SDH, Japanese [JPBD], Korean, Malay, Norwegian Bokmal, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Russian, Vietnamese, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified. **Encoder used:** rav1e 77d2a08 9/10/2023 with Dolby Vision patch, libopus 1.4. **rav1e settings:** `--speed 5 --quantizer 40 --tile-cols 2 --tile-rows 1 --range limited --primaries BT2020 --transfer SMPTE2084 --matrix BT2020NCL --dovi-rpu violet.bin --no-scene-detection` photon noise 3 **Encoding time:** ~1.5 days on AMD Ryzen 7 5800H. **Note:** My third releases of AV1 with DV encode! im kinda surprised how much rav1e has improve, i was encoding Yuru Camp on my Ryzen 7 5800H a little bit and it stabilizes at 1.3 fps on preset 5, now with the new commits i was able to get 2 fps in this movie and slowly reducing to 1.6 fps by the end of encode. Also im using lower quantizer here because how dark this anime can get. HDR works on my class projector![a](https://cdn.discordapp.com/emojis/1116404564007080067.webp?size=32&quality=lossless). On decoding side this Anime isnt that hard to decode like Yuru Camp but slightly easier, my highest CPU usage on R5 2600 are ~30% in heavy rain scene while using MPV, plays well on my Snapdragon 870 android phone by using MPV even battery saver was turned on. Just keep in mind you need a capable CPU to play if your device doesn't have AV1 HWDEC support. **Slowpoke:** https://slow.pics/c/2CYX4VDp

Damn you are really pushing Opus's capabilities there. 32kbps per channel for english audio? The 48kbps per channel for Japanese is more in line with my expectations. I'm not complaining though. I haven't done intensive A/B testing of Opus 1.4 - I can't imagine efficiency has improved that much, has it? I understand why 4+ channel audio uses lower bitrates per channel, I'm just surprised that Opus is getting so efficient. I understand how modern codecs exploit similarities between channels and "mix" the data together to increase efficiency; I guess I'm just enough of an old fuddy duddy that I have trouble accepting how an L/R or C channel could be transparent at less than 64 kbps regardless of the amount of cross-channel codec wizardry. If it really is that good, I suspect 384kbps for 7.1 might even be excessive...
why is this so dark tho?
Dark and too quiet I think, I had to increase brightness on my monitor from 5% to 100% and the volume in mpv to to 200% ,normally my volume is at 80%.
