Now it actually includes the subtitles and the english audio. Sorry and thank you @DmonHiro for telling me. The rest of the files are the same. ___ #### **Information:** There are so called 'BluRays' of this floating on the internet, like the QTS release. But in fact all of them are 480i, so I frankly do not know how QTS got 720p video. That being said, I encoded from the newest SDBD, which had a little better line-art than the DVDs. VFR video encoded as such; video filters include: QTGMC, cropping, degrain, debanding and `adaptive_grain`. The lossless japanese audio has been encoded to opus, and the english audio highly edited to fix the sync issues. Subtitles: About EP1-9, I know there is a fansub from Shinsen-Subs, but just during the first 5 minutes it had mistakes like: "one" instead of "eleven". (checked using the eng-dub) So instead of OCRing, I took the subtitles for EP1 up to EP9 from Exiled-Destiny (srt). The rest of the subtitles are from Nyanko and ACX. All of the subtitles are heavily retimed, edited and restyled. Anime is recommended by the way. The voice lines are too short for the animation, but it's still very enjoyable. Chapters are from the BDMV. Stereo jpn audio encoded with 256kbit/s. If you want the source files of these, just ask me on discord. ___ ##### For requests or questions, join my (small) discord server here: **https://discord.gg/8n7H3ArdCW** ##### I highly suggest you to use [mpv](https://mpv.io/) for playback. ___ **Summary:** * retimed and styled subtitles * losslessly edited english audio for sync * encoded the lossless audio tracks from PCM to OPUS (opusenc) * encoded and filtered video tracks to HEVC (x265, crf 15) * naming scheme matches [AniDB.net](https://anidb.net/anime/2858) |Track-Type | Title | Attributes | | :-------------: |:-------------:| :-----:| |video|Japanese|x265 HEVC 10bit VFR ~23.976FPS 846x480| |audio|Japanese|48.0kHz stereo OPUS| |audio|English|48.0kHz 5.1 AC3 (**default**)| |subtitles|Dialogue|ass| |subtitles|Sign&Songs|ass (**default**)| |chapters| ___ #### **Source:** **[BDSDMV@U2]** - video, jpn-audio, chapters **[Nyanko](https://nyaa.si/view/1097091)** - subtitles (ep10-fin) **[Exiled-Destiny](https://nyaa.si/view/101325)** - eng-audio, subtitles (ep1-9) ___ #### **FFprobe:** ``` Input #0, matroska, webm, from 'Solty Rei (2005) - S01E01 - The City Where the Aurora Falls.mkv': Metadata: creation_time : 2023-09-06T16:26:40.000000Z ENCODER : Lavf60.3.100 Duration: 00:23:30.02, start: -0.007000, bitrate: 1493 kb/s Chapters: Chapter #0:0: start 0.000000, end 59.059000 Metadata: title : Chapter 1 Chapter #0:1: start 59.059000, end 150.016540 Metadata: title : Chapter 2 Chapter #0:2: start 150.016540, end 835.034240 Metadata: title : Chapter 3 Chapter #0:3: start 835.034240, end 1302.534500 Metadata: title : Chapter 4 Chapter #0:4: start 1302.534500, end 1392.724600 Metadata: title : Chapter 5 Chapter #0:5: start 1392.724600, end 1410.008700 Metadata: title : Chapter 6 Stream #0:0(jpn): Video: hevc (Main 10), yuv420p10le(tv, bt709), 846x480, SAR 1:1 DAR 141:80, 29.97 fps, 29.97 tbr, 1k tbn (default) Metadata: title : [SDBD] Japanese BPS : 791179 DURATION : 00:23:29.983000000 NUMBER_OF_FRAMES: 33826 NUMBER_OF_BYTES : 139443620 _STATISTICS_WRITING_APP: mkvmerge v79.0 ('Funeral Pyres') 64-bit _STATISTICS_WRITING_DATE_UTC: 2023-09-06 16:26:40 _STATISTICS_TAGS: BPS DURATION NUMBER_OF_FRAMES NUMBER_OF_BYTES Stream #0:1(jpn): Audio: opus, 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp Metadata: title : [SDBD] Japanese ENCODER : opusenc from opus-tools 0.2 ENCODER_OPTIONS : --bitrate 256k BPS : 248988 DURATION : 00:23:30.017000000 NUMBER_OF_FRAMES: 70501 NUMBER_OF_BYTES : 43884763 _STATISTICS_WRITING_APP: mkvmerge v79.0 ('Funeral Pyres') 64-bit _STATISTICS_WRITING_DATE_UTC: 2023-09-06 16:26:40 _STATISTICS_TAGS: BPS DURATION NUMBER_OF_FRAMES NUMBER_OF_BYTES Stream #0:2(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 448 kb/s (default) Metadata: title : [Exiled-Destiny] English BPS : 448000 DURATION : 00:23:27.904000000 NUMBER_OF_FRAMES: 43997 NUMBER_OF_BYTES : 78842624 _STATISTICS_WRITING_APP: mkvmerge v79.0 ('Funeral Pyres') 64-bit _STATISTICS_WRITING_DATE_UTC: 2023-09-06 16:26:40 _STATISTICS_TAGS: BPS DURATION NUMBER_OF_FRAMES NUMBER_OF_BYTES Stream #0:3(eng): Subtitle: ass Metadata: title : [Exiled-Destiny] Dialogue (MiraiAnime-Edit) BPS : 114 DURATION : 00:22:26.260000000 NUMBER_OF_FRAMES: 316 NUMBER_OF_BYTES : 19280 _STATISTICS_WRITING_APP: mkvmerge v79.0 ('Funeral Pyres') 64-bit _STATISTICS_WRITING_DATE_UTC: 2023-09-06 16:26:40 _STATISTICS_TAGS: BPS DURATION NUMBER_OF_FRAMES NUMBER_OF_BYTES Stream #0:4(eng): Subtitle: ass (default) Metadata: title : [Exiled-Destiny] Sign&Songs (MiraiAnime-Edit) BPS : 25 DURATION : 00:22:09.220000000 NUMBER_OF_FRAMES: 64 NUMBER_OF_BYTES : 4319 _STATISTICS_WRITING_APP: mkvmerge v79.0 ('Funeral Pyres') 64-bit _STATISTICS_WRITING_DATE_UTC: 2023-09-06 16:26:40 _STATISTICS_TAGS: BPS DURATION NUMBER_OF_FRAMES NUMBER_OF_BYTES Stream #0:5: Attachment: ttf Metadata: filename : ChewedPenBB.otf mimetype : application/x-font-opentype Stream #0:6: Attachment: ttf Metadata: filename : ACaslon_Regular.otf mimetype : application/x-font-opentype Stream #0:7: Attachment: ttf Metadata: filename : angie_Bold.ttf mimetype : application/x-truetype-font Stream #0:8: Attachment: ttf Metadata: filename : CALLANI.ttf mimetype : application/x-truetype-font ``` *** #### **I've included two scripts. Ah, yes... the curse of the upload. You make sure everything is perfect, you check everything 10 times, and then you upload. And then you realize you forgot something.... Been there.
I've done that too. Also, Handbrake let's you upscale videos, I've done that as well with a few select DVD releases.

**@???** I don't really understand why people would upscale videos. Simply resizing doesn't give you more details and ends up being just the same amount of visual content, but possibly with upscaling artifacts and a bigger file size. AI upscales may add new content, but that's not what the artist intended the anime to look like. Is there any good reason to do it? Btw, it's also against nyaa's rules, so you probably shouldn't admit to it, if your account is worth anything to you. Or clarify that those releases aren't uploaded on here.
On a computer there's no real reason to upscale. If you want to sell them as a BD though, come companies prefer to to an upscaling. I have no idea why though, they are usually terrible. The worst are from a company called Q-Tec. If you see their logo on a bluray, it belongs straight in the trash.
Nyaa does allow DVD [or BD with 480p encode] upscaling to 575p, and I have only one of my few DVD shows on here. Sorry about my confusing word choice.

ThatWaxEllo (uploader)

**@Sandoe41** I think the limit is set to 575p, because that's the resolution for PAL while NTSC is 480i (commonly). Although it's allowed, I don't think it was the goal when compiling the rules. **@DmonHiro** I wanted to encode the Haruhi Suzumiya Series and holy shit does that BluRay look awful. AI upscaling is a terrible practice no matter who you are, and simply resizing to higher resolutions and marking it as a BluRay, seems more like someone's trying to sell / "farm downloads".
the only upscaling technology i've seen that actually looks good is AstroRes. discotek's BD of digimon uses it and they actually put effort into that instead of just slapping a waifu2x filter over the video and calling it a day like most BD upscales before they located the masters for Project A-ko they were using AstroRes for it and even that looked almost indistinguishable from an actual HD re-scan

**@cosmic** Thanks for the great insight. I've come across a few of Discotek's BluRays and they cannot be compared to absolutely anything else. Outstanding work they're doing. Glad that at least some companies care about quality.
@cosmic: Using waifu2x would would actually still be better then whatever the hell Q-TEC does. They manage to somehow smear the colors while also distorting the lines. It's amazing.
this brings back old memories, cant believe its almost 20 years now
