Earth's forces managed to drive the JAM back through the portal to their home planet designated as "Fairy." While majority of Earth's population is unaware of the JAM's presence, the war continues on Fairy. After some consideration, I've decided to leave the frame rate at the base 59.940 fps after deinterlacing, which might be an overkill, but setting it lower introduced jerkiness which I didn't like. Also, this anime has some very complex fast motion scenes, which required to lower the CRF value to 13. + The encode uses some processing in order to enhance the overall image quality of an anime which was released around 20 years ago in the pre-HDTV digital era. As with every applied filter and processing, you gain something and you loose something. It’s highly subjective. + Source Japanese audio is in **Dolby TrueHD**, and I've decided to keep it untouched, as converting it (even to FLAC) would mean that some metadata would be lost. If your setup can decode TrueHD, I highly suggest to watch it with this audio track. However, regular lossless FLAC is also available as a second audio track in case TrueHD is unsupported on your system. + Regarding subtitles, I used [WHW] as source (thank you!), but changed it drastically: re-styled, edited, re-timed it. It looks completely different compared to the [WHW] source. + The BluRay box-set contained two **extras** (with official English subtitles), so I've decided to include them. The first extra is called **"Yukikaze Experimental Movie"**, which looks more like a trailer, and the second is **"Aircrafts in Yukikaze from the Pilot's Eyes"**, an exclusive video made for the BluRay release, which is an interview between a military commentator and a former fighter pilot from the air force. Contrary to the main episodes, both extras are in 16:9 aspect ratio. English ASS subtitles for these extras were done from scratch: created, OCRed, ASSified, modified and edited all in-house. + Tested on my usual **Windows 10** setup, but I can also confirm that it's compatible with the **Nvidia Shield Pro** (2019 edition) using **Kodi**. But keep in mind that the high 59.940 fps framerate and low CRF value make this release more challenging to play back. + **A very personal opinion about this anime and this release**: Contrary to many other animes which are based on a manga, this particular anime is based on a novel (more like series of novels) by *Chohei Kambayashi*. It's insane that the novel series is running for almost 40 years now: the first book was released in 1984, and the last book in 2022. This anime is based on the first two books. Although the anime is enjoyable on its own, it has some impressive visuals (considering it's 20 years old), and introduces the watcher to this alternate reality, but unfortunately the story is confusing and doesn't explain much. The novels are the opposite: they are very detailed in story and lore. The reason I've decided to make my own release is that I wasn't really happy with previous releases. This anime (and the BluRay box-set) presented a lot of unique challenges, and required lots of experimentations. Months of free time were spent making this. Please enjoy!
