@VEGETA, as @mcbaws21 says, post-sharpening is indeed the culprit here. I tried descaling with a multitude of kernels, but everything gave results with tonnes of errors. The Judas release ended up using a lanczos5 descale + spline36 downscale for smoothing purposes, and then I just finedehaloed it. Not a great solution, and it ruinined the credits, but >who cares about minis. Disgusting production, disgusting release schedule, disgusting show. I expected nothing less.

@EoE, I can imagine the horrors you've been through doing this. I didn't check your encode for this episode but will surely do next one. so you used similar descale as judas here as well? maybe it is better not to descale this show but rather as you did, finedehalo it, plus regular stuff like AA and denoise+deband. You could also post sharpen it (properly) if you feel it got so soft. as for credits you could just mask them if you are interested, easy. thanks for your efforts.
