Q: I think the CR EN subs were using a different font last week than this week’s.
A: They should have the same font (Trebuchet MS), but for episode 3 I forgot to add the `ScaledBorderAndShadow: yes` flag to the subtitles, so the border size was only defined in pixels at 640x360. The borders were smaller than on the Crunchyroll player at higher resolutions, and that looks OK at 1080p but really weird at 4K.
On these releases (or at least, on v1s), I'm trying to make as few changes to the original subtitles as possible, just syncing all of them to the same video. If you want to change the font on the styled subs, MPC-HC and MPV have options for that (VLC doesn't).
