@Oosik did you find any compression artifacts or loss of detail compared to source? And did we determine if this is intended to be a mini, balanced, or transparency encode?
“meme codec” meanwhile it has industry-wide adoption in hardware and has since before that comment.
Apple is so dogshit slow at implementing new codecs that if an Apple device finally supports a codec in hardware, there is no room to criticize a codec as a meme or valueless.
VVC has slightly better compression but is license-encumbered and has no good software decoders that are efficient on older hardware. It’s not a meme either but it’s dogshit to use for general releases and will probably be dogshit for several more years. By the time VVC is ready for production use by end-users and can decode efficiently on budget hardware, AV2 will already be a thing. Industry has made a choice. Follow along or be left behind.

This might as well be a [Cleo] release.

Lemme get $1k power bill from AV1 encoding and I’ll get back to you.
LastBreeze
Ok sounds good, let me know. Don’t forget, we have a meeting about av1 related power bills on Monday, 11am, conference room 69.
Oosik
We will be discussing Vinland Saga. See you there.
NekoTrix
Bro has nothing interesting to say as always
LastBreeze
Will the focus will be on 720p av1 encodes focusing on balance over transparency?
Oosik
144p only sorry. Need to save on power bill.
LastBreeze
I’m still mad someone deleted the 144p Dragon Ball Super Super Hero encode
Oosik
Same. Pouring one out for BlueSwordM as well. Now this release has comments which means people will now download it.

Bloatbros seething now that av1 can do their shitty static grain at 1/100th of the bitrate.

joy.

Lol better use h266 VVC is 33% more efficient than this meme codec
