whats so bad about it? the filesize is great and the picture is very good for that filesize. Are you watching on a big 4k tv or what is the problem?
I dont think anyone will use subsplease for archiving anyway.

nah Hidive looks like garbage even if you aren't pixel peeping or on a large screen. since they compress the shit out of their video you get a lot more banding and artifacts.
they are by far the worst when it comes to video quality out of all the major anime streaming services
i see, well for one-time watching it looks ok for me :) but i get you, such a small filesize must have a lot of compression. maybe a middleground with 600mb for 1080p would be perfect but its not in our hand anyway. But one thing is for sure, the next years we will get even better quality at small filesize, its just the question what will be the next mainstream codec after x265.

no we won't
streaming services will abuse the shit of out av1/the Next Big Codec to reduce bitrate by a huge margin and still be worse than current videos, which are already bad enough
