Not at all, AV1 software decoding is strong, in fact faster than H.265 SW decoding. Unless you have ancient hardware, anything will be able to playback this using latest MPV.

ShinMugetsu2000 you should try it sometime with mpv/vlc/potplayer. Like NekoTrix said, if you can play 265 content, you can definitely play av1 content. Welcome to a whole new world of video quality

AV1 is a more efficient encoder, so it can produce the same quality at a lesser filesize, or better quality at the same filesize as H265. Valenciano picked the former option, probably because there was no perceptible difference going for the latter.
