Does HEVC mean you recoded the original WEB-DL?
Was waiting for MTBB, but gonna stick to SRW for now. Same combination of sources (CR video/AMZN audio/HIDIVE subs) but without lossy-to-lossy conversion.
> but without lossy-to-lossy conversion.
All fansubs encode from lossy sources... including MTBB.
Shoot MTBB has even encoded videos that had already been encoded by another person which also came from a lossy source... hence the red highlight on a few things.
Guys, what I meant is I personally don't want any video modifications on an airing anime that's released on streaming platforms. I want a WEB-DL, meaning the exact video that you see by buying a Crunchyroll subscription and opening an episode in a browser. This is achieved with tools like youtube-dl/yt-dlp (or maybe some others).
What kind of filtering was done here? There's no info in the description. It would be nice to see a screenshot comparison too so people can decide if it's "more watchable" by themselves.
I don't believe that "all fansubbers encode from lossy sources" is true. Fansubbers can take original untouched WEB-DL video and mux softsubs in it. Maybe replace or add some audio tracks. This is done by remuxing, not reencoding. No colors are altered in this process, no new video artefacts are introduced.
But you can't losslessly change an H264 video to HEVC without losing some quality in the process. That's why I wanted to clarify if it was reencoded or not. Looks like it was, so I got the answer, thank you.
I mean, I basically agree that fansubbers encode too often instead of just using the raw source. Not sure what Chihiro was doing with Executioner last season.
But Vodes's encode here is clearly better than CR. I checked!
> don’t believe that “all fansubbers encode from lossy sources” is true.
Then you'd be wrong... because pretty much every "fansub" group does their own encodes and all sources are lossy. For the record even Blu-rays are a lossy source. It's pretty rare for a fansub to use web-dl as-is because banding is so prevalent.
> For the record even Blu-rays are a lossy source.
Basically every format anime masters use are lossy aswell (DNxHD, ProRes, HDCAM, DigiBeta, etc - all lossy)
I noticed you had subs for the ED on the first episode which is the same song for the OP, but no subs on that or the new ED song. Will you be doing subs for them?
