@tudos4 Reason is simple. HEVC is terribly incompatible with anything. While it gives a minor bump in quality and the file size x265 is only working well on PC. x265 and HEVC are not supported by any hardware encoding. Considering that disc space is incredibly cheap the hassle of x265 and HEVC are pretty much pointless. Personally I'm playing all my anime through Plex server and to reduce the computing power needed to play it whenever I download x265 from nyaa I have to reencode it before putting it on my storage. Basically x265 and Hevc are hassle that is not appreciated by many people.
If you are using devices from 2012 and earlier, then yes, 265 is not compatible with anything lol. In 2022, 265 playback is supported on 99% of devices.
Even mobile devices has HEVC hardware decoding support for long years. If your device can't play them it must be really old.
I understand if you hate 10-bit because even nowadays entry and most mid-range mobile SoCs does not have 10-bit hardware decoding but they're still have 8-bit AVC and HEVC decoding support.
On the other hand high end SoCs have 8K 10-bit HEVC decoding and some of them even supports AV1 decoding.
