The source is of a poor quality, it was excessively sharpened during post-production, which not only caused an obvious haloing around the lines, but also led to the overly sharp silhouette around the characters. Therefore the degree of separation between the background and the characters was very strong. For the optimization process, we first applied strong de-haloing, followed by slight anti-aliasing to smooth out the lines. During the process, we intentionally reduced the sharpness of the lines, such that the lines and backgrounds could blend more naturally. The quality of the flat area is also poor, where the dark area in some scenes had strong color banding, and we spent quite some effort dealing with this problem.
