This is a capture of a rare screener tape of AKIRA (1988). What makes this version special is that it is one of the few surviving original theatrical releases of this film, before they produced the “international” version. What this means is that it has both older versions of animation cuts that were fixed for the later “international” version, along with credits in Japanese. Some old and likely mistranslated subtitles along with a timecode are also burned in.
The exact source of this tape is unknown, and whoever did the capture did not do it properly, meaning that the overall quality suffers. Treat this version as more of a novelty/curiosity, for anyone wondering what the older animation cuts looked like.

Infinite thanks for this historic finding! This ICA Projects is maybe an early fansub VHS distributor…

The screener is based on the international version with the retakes. Still an interesting piece of history nonetheless.
