#### **v2 Notice:** Overhauled encode which fixes the prior version's slight overcropping alongside improved dot-crawl, aliasing, chroma noise, and rainbowing elimination as well as compression artifacts treatment. See comparison screenshots. Significant further subtitle QC was also applied to to correct and add numerous missing lines, adjust flow, preserve honorifics, script retiming to eliminate residual scene bleeds, among other fixes. Also adds several additional language subtitle options and the original DVD subs for those that prefer them ![alt text](https://i.ibb.co/Vpgb11z/019.jpg "Poster") ___ #### [**OVA Information**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic_Little) ### **Video** Source | Resolution | DAR | Format | Bitrate | Framerate | MediaInfo :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | R1 DVD | 706 ✖ 480 | 4:3 *(Anamorphic)* | H.264 10-Bit | ~4300 kbps | VFR | [**Link**](https://pastebin.com/mEDMZGg8) ### **Audio** Language | Channels | Format | Bitrate | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | Japanese | 2ch | AC3 | 448 kbps English | 6ch | AC3 | 448 kbps ### **Subtitles** Language | Style | Format | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | English | Styled Modified R1 Dialogue *(Modified **_Tsundere_**)* | ASS | English | Styled Modified R1 Signs/Songs *(Modified **_Tsundere_**)* | ASS | English | Unstyled Modified R1 Dialogue *(Modified **_Tsundere_**)* | SRT | English | Unstyled Modified R1 Signs/Songs *(Modified **_Tsundere_**)* | SRT | English | Unstyled Dialogue Retail Image Subs | Vobsub | English | Unstyled Signs/Songs Retail Image Subs | Vobsub | Spanish | Unstyled Dialogue | SRT | German | Unstyled Dialogue | SRT | Russian | Unstyled Dialogue | SRT | Russian | Styled Dialogue | ASS | #### **Filters used:** WhiteBalance, DeCross, DDComb, KNLMeansCL *(separate strength calls for isolated chroma and luma plane noise removal)*, SMDegrain, amDCT, LSFmod, FineDehalo, xaa, aWarpSharp2 *(chroma sharpening only)*, Hysteria, f3kgrain, BalanceBorders #### [**Source Comparison**](https://slow.pics/c/2hq2FO2R) #### [**Encode Comparison vs. Source & v1 Release**](https://slow.pics/c/ps09MC7x) **Updated Notes:** An updated release based on the 90s Sci-Fi OVA by Satoshi Urushihara. The R2J Source has higher quality audio, but worse video than the R1 release therefore the original Japanese track was synced to the R1 encoded video. The quality of the R1 video itself, while better, was still poor displaying a significant amount of blended frames to contend with that have been mostly removed. VFR was employed to preserve smooth motion in the scrolling ED English credits. Superior filtering to reduce dot-crawl, haloing, and aliasing were applied. The source exhibited pernicious rainbowing which was eliminated via a mixture of derainbowing filters and UV sharpening and noise removal. A combination of very-weak luma denoising was also employed to eliminate mosquito noise to the extent possible without harming detail and adaptive grain-matching was implemented to treat macroblocking. Finally, when comparing the source footage and measuring known white-points by sampling their component RGB values highlighted a consistent slight-green chroma cast throughout the R1 source that gives the film a dingy/sickly appearance which has been reverse-equalized to a neutral white balance to alleviate said bias. See comparison screenshots. Styled subs were originally taken from **Tsundere**'s release and heavily modified by me to further correct several inaccurate or overly liberalized translations from ADV's old script, add several missing lines, split and combine others to improve readability, preserve honorifics, retime the script to eliminate scene bleeds, etc. among other fixes. R1 & R2J DVD extras included.

Following the initial v1 release which acted as a trial, further research and testing showed that HEVC-based encoding for grainy SD material can easily incur fine detail loss at equivalent settings without careful tuning and to achieve quality parity for such sources required a ballooning bitrate to the point that no significant savings in filesize were realized (which is why the change in filesize from v1 to v2 is minimal). Therefore I judged the shift in encoding standards to be more suitable. Also I realize that color correction treads into the realm of the subjective and has its own issues such as with the on-going efforts to CC the Dragon Box where it must be applied on a varying scene-by-scene basis within each episode. However in this case a target color palette differing from the footage master is not the goal, instead it was merely to undo a minor chroma cast endemic to the source's transfer which affects all scenes globally thereby improving saturation and tonal balance. I hope in time this OVA will receive a proper HD remaster because it truly deserves it from the rich designs to the smooth animation with in-between production credited to MADHOUSE, J.C. Staff, Doga Kobo, and Shaft among other studios.
Any chance you can share your script for this for later reference when tackling OVAs with similar issues? A few of the things I want to work on at some point have similar issues but I have little experience with DVDs, just mainly with BDs and WEB sources. (My encode scripts for anything final are linked with the relases in turn if any of that interests you). I don't mind if it's avisynth either, or if you don't feel like sharing. I know some are more protective of their work than I am.
really impressive stuff
