How good is this part, then? Does it suck because of the different director or what?

worse than part 5 definitely, but still decently enjoyable for lupin fans. although that’s not really the director’s fault unless he was the one who decided to make the non-main-plot episodes so, uh, weird and inconsistent in quality.
