[Spice and Wolf II](https://myanimelist.net/anime/5341/Ookami_to_Koushinryou_II) **Original script**: Frostii **TLC**: Unbased **Everything else**: motbob There are alternate honorifics tracks in this release. Set your media player to play “enm” language tracks by default to automatically play honorifics tracks. Nep_Blanc's release for this show seems really popular for some reason. I want to note that this release looks [significantly better](https://slow.pics/c/usHtuGOb) than Nep_Blanc despite being a lot smaller. Please leave feedback in the comments, good or bad. Please read this short [playback guide](https://gist.githubusercontent.com/motbob/754c24d5cd381334bb64b93581781a81/raw/dbda47515b9655db03a86c9ae281ba8290e08966/playback_guide) if you want to know how to make the video and subtitles of this release look better. **Anyone wanting to do their own release is free to use any part of this torrent without permission or credit.**

should've made the filesizes really small tbh
why are all of these over 300mb? smh bloat
actually both indexes recommend remuxes of your subs with beatrice because they just assumed the encode was good i guess? just another of the countless examples of how they're pretty flawed.
So, this or your 720p rip?
deez nuts @Marche
Based. One of the best anime of all time.
@Marche read the description. Personally I'm staying with 720p, back in good old 2009 all anime was produced at 720p

> actually both indexes recommend remuxes of your subs with beatrice because they just assumed the encode was good i guess? just another of the countless examples of how they’re pretty flawed. Beatrice *was* way better than my 720p encodes in terms of avoiding basic encoding artifacts. It's tough because even when you do crf 14 for 720p, you're going to get pretty bad artifacting in screenshot comparisons when basically any animation is happening, unless you turn off mbtree probably (haven't tested). Also, I've since learned that qcomp 0.6 in 720p encodes is *not* okay.
I don't get it then, are the artifacts a result of low bitrate?
HOLY SHIT HOLY FUCK FUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKK YYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH I AM THE HAPPIEST GUY IN THE ENTIRE WORLD WWWWWHHHHUUUUUUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVCCCCCCC
Woah. Calm down my guy, I wouldn't want you to get so worked up that you have a literal death stroke over there. https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/912/382/de9.jpg
what the fuck netaro
Based Motbob putting the mini encoders where they belong.
yeah I'm sticking with 720 release yo uploaded a few years back, no reaaon to get this because no 1080 anime was made back then.
Is this anime some kind of furry hentai?
yes but it is in HEVC so you WILL watch it
when the majority of encoders say that one video is better than another its probably because its actually true not because people have a vendetta against you or certain filesizes. even after looking at the comp I think beatrice looks better here. either actually learn how to encode stuff and make it look good or stop coping so hard when people take your subs and use it with better video. btw there are more settings that influence quality than crf and qcomp
So HEVC isn't shit? I have avoided it because I have no idea if it's worth it.
@HowUnfortunate i only watch anime that i encode
I still think people are way too anal about video quality with still frames. I am like 90% sure less bitrate means that during moving scenes it will look significantly worse than the "bloated" encode. This is why I am always wondering why we are judging the quality of an encode on pixel peeping stuff. To me, all 3 look essentially identical, unless I actually zoom it. Will it ever happen during playback? No.
i don't get you guys.. why would anyone want a smaller obliterated file size... I don't even recognize 300 to 500mbs for a 1080p episode but 300 to 500mbs would be perfect for a 360p dvd (avi file) but not 720p or 1080p well unless your watching it on a cellphone. i will not download a 720p file unless it at least 700mbs and above and a 1080p file 1gb or above because the smaller you shrink it the more the crappy quality you can notice especially in 21" TV's and above (unless your watching it on a CRT Tv)
@motbob thanks for your time an patience uploading this awesome series.
>stop coping so hard when people take your subs and use it with better video pretty sure the problem here is the "better" video isn't actually better. people just assume it is because of the reputation(s) of the encoder(s).

I suppose my and herkz's comments must have started blending together to you
This comments section is beautiful! *Applause to all the actors in this fabulous play*
I read on reddit that motbob doesn't even use handbrake which is the best encoder don't trust their releases
More encoders should use ballsbrake. Will prepare them for when people start breaking their balls.
I believe the correct term is "bustin' dem balls, yo"
@LightArrowsEXE That's one way to put it. I'm thinking of [Goodfellas](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_FAFAOExjQ). ꉂ (´∀`)ʱªʱªʱª Seadex is just one perspective of what ideal encodes are. It's helpful for people with a similar perspective though. I appreciate it. motbob's respected in the community enough as to where he doesn't need their stamp of approval. Some are purely quality in their perspective. Some include size. Some aim for balance. Variety is good. All can exist. Whatever is truly in demand will prevail. It may be sorrowful those attached to one perspective. I'll just sit back, enjoy, and appreciate all contributors. Warring cliques and tribes over such things are absolutely hilarious.
seadex preferring encode quality over sub quality is obvious their right to do (even if i think it's pretty stupid), but sometimes they recommend releases which have quite a bit worse subs just because the encode is better. that doesn't seem like a good trade-off to me. then again i don't know who runs it so maybe none of them are experienced fansubbers and are unable to determine which subs are good and which are bad.
@herkz Ah I see. I've only really used them for releases with identical subtitles. Good point. I value comprehension and nice flow over a pretty encode as well. Would be nice if they could have notes for that, so someone could remux with the better subtitles. Or perhaps an alternative to Seadex can be created.
there's already an alternative, and MTBB had one once.
>Or perhaps an alternative to Seadex can be created. there is https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PJYwhjzLNPXV2X1np-S4rdZE4fb7pxp-QbHY1O0jH6Q/edit#gid=0
Monogatari when?
@RoxReaper GJM's version focuses on subs only pretty much. If this goes on we'd end up with an https://xkcd.com/927/ situation
take the subs from one and the videos from the other then
> Look at how much detail Beatrice nuked and replaced with fake, filesize-bloating grain. I can barely tell the difference. WTF kind of shrooms do encoders use to see these problems? Can I have some?
> maybe none of them are experienced fansubbers and are unable to determine which subs are good and which are bad. @herkz Partially true. The only people with any fansubbing experience are me and Scrad, and both of us do TS and encoding. Neither is qualified to judge editing or translation accuracy, so we mostly go with whatever GJM has to say. > Look at how much detail Beatrice nuked and replaced with fake, filesize-bloating grain. @motbob While I don't like Beatrice, yours does have bad lineart. I can't tell if this is a source issue or encode, because you haven't linked a source/encode comparison. Your 720p encode also has more haloing than this one (and Beatrice). If I had to guess, it's probably because you resized it to 720p and reupscaled instead of descaling it correctly. But based off what I read, this show can't actually be descaled in the first place. So whatever attempt you're making at it, it's causing more issues than it's solving. Definitely better than nep_blanc, but I still don't think I can list this over Beatrice. Beatrice is bloated but it also doesn't suffer from the lineart problems yours has. If you actually care about encode related feedback, you should join our server and post comparisons of your encodes before you finish and release it, otherwise there's not much you can really do with this, except a V2.
who would listen to what gjm has to say that's like the worst idea ever
@Interruptor @RoxReaper Bravo fellows. I have used this one before. It blended together in my mind with Seadex. Appreciation to both efforts.
> I still think people are way too anal about video quality with still frames. Because still frames are the only way you can compare two videos with fact/proof to show to other people. People who can see artifacts like haloing, banding, blocking, ringing, aliasing or even other stuff like denoise, chromatic aberration, bad line art will 100% notice it during video playback in motion. And once you notice it, its really bad to look at and hinders at the enjoyment of what you are watching. If you cannot see the difference that’s probably a blessing since you don’t have video OCD like the rest of us lol. That’s why people are so “anal” about good video and why so many good encoders can take weeks or days to encode just a single show or movie.
How about just listening to audio and reading subs? Fuck them vids.
Jokes on you, I'm literally illiterate
I looked at my archive and I still have the 720p BD release of Coalgirls dating back to 2011
>handbrake which is the best encoder ᵇᵘᵗ ʰᵃⁿᵈᵇʳᵃᵏᵉ ⁱˢ ʲᵘˢᵗ ᵃⁿ ᶠᶠᵐᵖᵉᵍ ᵇᵃˢᵉᵈ ᵍᵘⁱ*** @vikrant9760 I think he might have meant *still* frames rather than frames that were taken from a high motion scene
ban anime. no more anime. read manga you fucks.
Arigato ^^
