Video: LINK Subtitles: (Modified) Commie Unfortunately this release breaks sergey_krs' streak, so I had to look elsewhere for sources. Which, there aren't many out there. The only source that really stood out was LINK's. Thanks to shamil11 for obtaining LINK's release for me. For my modifications, I fixed up signs and added in honorifics. Not a whole lot of editing this release. There's barely any signs, and the dialog didn't have many issues. Of course I changed the font for the dialog to match with all of my other previous releases. Because this is an archival release, I only included the 3.1ch audio track. But if you want the 2.0ch FLAC audio track, you can download it [here](https://mega.nz/file/C65BRSyB#OrHhYa37UgWrD6ywtmLdqm5CI4yzQDTMFuXlQlR5S-U). CyC alive you love to see it
it's commie though how can the subs be good
actually i was curious how you modified the typesetting since there's so little of it in this movie and it seems like you just [vaguely made it worse???](https://slow.pics/c/31pUZDMv). weird flex but okay. you might also want to use a dialogue font that has an actual italics version because the faux italics that is just slanted looks like dogshit imo

the modifications are simply your opinion vs mine. there's nothing wrong with either (though I'm flattered you took the time to make a diff.pics comparison) it's true I should really have a font that properly supports italics. however, it's a non-issue because it doesn't bother me. plus it's the same font I've used with all of my other natsume releases ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
i'm surprised you didn't just edit the official subs since they already have all the terminology you used and honorifics, etc. because right now this release is kinda pointless. at least with the last movie you combined our subs with the (bad) scanlator subs, making something that was unique.
I would have increased the size of #2 and #3 since you divided the words into two lines. At that point, making them bigger would have been beneficial. About the first one, I think it's kinda negligible, but I prefer CyC lower font because it's easier to read, whereas commie's higher one looks more on point. I also think the changes are mostly inconsequential, so whatever. Even though I don't understand why you untranslated "book of friends"...
lol way more than "book of friends" was untranslated, but i didn't mention it since weebs seem to like it
Haven't checked this particular release but considering how bad his previous releases were, it'd be no surprise if this one follows the same trend. I haven't compared them to other releases, so I can only point out the most glaring issues I found. Single liners covering the whole screen, _objectively_ too low subtitle placement, weird line breaks, relatively hard to read font. And these issues are not just one-offs, they are littered all over. Pick any scene of any episode and you would find them. I'd presume most of these issues were probably caused due to changing the font. Overall the subtitles are hard to read and distracting. In addition to that, weebifying the script(or was the original script already like that?). Ugh. I recall several instances where it read weird because of that. Also, there were simple mistakes here and there. Like, Nishimura becoming Ishimura. Otherwise, I can't comment on the accuracy of the original script since I don't know japanese. He also made several subjective changes which I'm not fond of. For eg., inclusion of romaji and placing it at the bottom. Or the font itself. I remember checking out his subs for the ephemeral bond movie after watching the commie release. Which were bad. Be it editing or not giving in to their their inner weeb demon, commie was superior. In conclusion, avoid [CyC] Natsume releases. Also, there were simple mistakes here and there. Like, Nishimura becoming Ishimura. Otherwise, I can’t comment on the accuracy of the original script since I don’t know japanese. the official subs are like that, with tons of simple mistakes as well, although it's kinda hard to tell what exactly is the sub source for earlier seasons. anyway the funny thing is both of these "indexes" of best fansub releases recommend cyc for this series just because it mostly uses """good""" encodes even though as you can see the subs are severely lacking. i wonder if anyone who added these releases to the indexes actually watched them ever.
@pqpqpq wtf do you mean by weebifying the script, seriously stop making stuff up and attaching the word weeb to everything, is cringy af, even more so when everyone here on this website is a damn weeb lol otherwise you wouldn't be here. You don't like to read Japanese words instead of English? don't watch anime or stick to shitty english dubs, problem solved.

> Single liners covering the whole screen, objectively too low subtitle placement, weird line breaks, relatively hard to read font. the first few seasons was my first time actually editing a script in aegisub. I've been wanting to go back and fix them for awhile now but I just haven't had the time and motivation. I agree the text is too low in those releases > weebifying the script(or was the original script already like that?) the original scripts back in the day were like that. I personally don't mind it though. if you think about it, having the -san, -kun, -chan and the like gives you more information than trying to localize them or even removing them. most viewers searching for a higher quality release are bound to know the difference between them. if not, it's a great opportunity to learn additionally, translating youkai and ayakashi to demon isn't all that accurate. in the west, demons are known to _always_ be evil. but in the east, it varies quite a bit. I suppose just translating it to spirit would make the most sense in this case. but even then we think of spirits in the west of being a human or animal soul who hasn't passed on, which isn't always the case in japanese folklore. it was actually because of this I looked into it and learned quite a bit. it's a very interesting subject > Like, Nishimura becoming Ishimura that's just something I missed. I didn't really do much with the script back then, I was mainly focused on TSing, and I still mostly am but I do take the time to look over the dialogue now > He also made several subjective changes which I’m not fond of. For eg., inclusion of romaji and placing it at the bottom. Or the font itself. very subjective indeed; to each their own

> giving in to their their inner weeb demon lmao wtf even. you had a couple fair points but you lost me here. if I was on the outside looking in I would have been fairly convinced up until this point, minus "weebifying the script" anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to critique my work but a lot of it is simply subjective. I make these releases for myself and share them for those who find them useful. I label all of my releases with the romaji title (if available), which is why "book of friends" is "untranslated". again, personal preference now you could take the time to write a few paragraphs complaining about other people's releases or you could redirect that effort into making your own perfect release also, anyone bothering to read this essay (that had to be split into two comments because nyaa doesn't like essays) should note the screen shots in this person's comment are from the second season's first episode, not this release. I have since added padding around the subtitles, as seen in hurky's diff.pics
If you ever do go back and rework the first seasons then it would be nice if you could give the timing another pass. There was quite a bit a scenebleed and the like - especially in season 2. Though I think that mainly already originates in tlacatlc6's script. If I remember correctly looking at his version - it had the problem too.
@xCryptic Could you please reupload your patch for Towa no Quon? It seems that the link you had in the file description has been deleted. Much thanks.
