[Nekomonogatari: Kuro](https://myanimelist.net/anime/15689/Nekomonogatari__Kuro) Commie video and base script. Has an honorifics track and tracked signs (thanks, Arid0914). I fixed some jank typesetting and did a lot of scriptwork, mostly to fix CPS issues. I'm going to reiterate my opinion that Commie's encodes are the best for this arc due to stronger debanding than Kawaiika. _________________________________ Monogatari Project To-Do: **Bakemonogatari**: [1-2 done](https://nyaa.si/view/1260802), [3-5 done](https://nyaa.si/view/1432475), [6-8 done](https://nyaa.si/view/1444756), [11-13 done](https://nyaa.si/view/1457715), 9-10 & 14-15 do everything from scratch **Kizumonogatari**: [Done](https://nyaa.si/?f=0&c=0_0&q=mtbb+kizu) **Nisemonogatari**: TLC, remove memes, add honorifics track, improve typesetting, script consistency. **Nekomonogatari (Black)**: [Done](https://nyaa.si/view/1460679) **Nekomonogatari (White)**: Add honorifics track, motion track signs **Kabukimonogatari**: Do a final QC pass. **Hanamonogatari**: [Done](https://nyaa.si/view/1437637) **Otorimonogatari**: Add honorifics track, motion track signs **Onimonogatari**: Translate previews. **Koimonogatari**: Translate previews. **Tsukimonogatari**: Add honorifics track. fffffaaaasssttttttttt
Thanks. Which one is next if I may ask? Since you're not doing them in order.
Thanks. BTW doesn't stronger debanding also destroy details?

> Thanks. BTW doesn’t stronger debanding also destroy details? Yep, it's a tradeoff. I looked at screenshot comparisons and had a hard time finding detail loss, but it was there. > Thanks. Which one is next if I may ask? Since you’re not doing them in order. No idea.
>Thanks. BTW doesn’t stronger debanding also destroy details? back when this was encoded in 2013, that was true. nowadays there are much better detail masking filters so you can avoid it.
Why aren't you making your own encodes MTBB? Or asking for help, if you can't/don't have the time. recycling encodes from 7 years ago seems a bit of a waste.

It's not like people didn't know how to encode 7 years ago. I still think mawen's bake encodes beat Beatrice's, and those came out in 2014.
I still think that Beatrice beats Mawen, but anyway, while what you are saying is definitely true, I imagine that a hypothetical identical release with the same-but-improved filtering would be (relatively?) way better than what we have now.

You're gonna have to be more specific than that. What is it about Commie's filtering that needs improving? Please support your answer with screenshot comparisons, if possible.
>What is it about Commie’s filtering that needs improving? -better detail masking so dark scenes aren't destroyed. i'm pretty sure i just used gradfun3. -scenefiltered antialiasing so scenes that need really strong antialiasing get it. i used the same strength antialiasing for all of it, and there are definitely a few scenes i remember where there's still lots of aliasing. -scenefilter debanding too so you can use weaker debanding for the whole thing but stronger for select scenes that need it. -descale it since that wasn't a thing at the time. -i haven't tested but i imagine adptvgrnMod would be very beneficial. -x264 settings were not tested much, if at all, though they're generally okay.

Thank you for the detailed response. Thinking about it more, Kawaiika had the chance to scenefilter strong debanding and chose not to, and that's by far the most important part of any theoretical reencode, so I just don't have any faith that a better encode is actually going to come along. Commie had the chance to scenefilter AA/deband in 2014, but didn't, so why should I expect them or anyone else to do it now? As far as rescaling and adaptive grain, I'd say "who cares" and "yuck," respectively.
>Commie had the chance to scenefilter AA/deband in 2014, but didn’t, so why should I expect them or anyone else to do it now? no, i didn't have the "chance" to do it. i literally had no idea how to scenefilter when this was encoded. meanwhile i do it now for lots of things (for instance, bishounen tanteidan is scenefiltered). >As far as rescaling oh, i wouldn't rescale it. i'd just leave it at 720p. can also do 4:4:4 as a bonus. >adaptive grain this seems like the kind of show it was built for, but yeah i'd obviously test it to see if it made a difference
