@Shangz I can reproduce the issue on mpv on Windows. Also happens for the OP kanji font. Digging into this a bit:

   sub/ass: fontselect: Using default font family: (Heisei Maru Gothic Std, 400, 0) -> Cabin-SemiBold, 0, Cabin-SemiBold
   sub/ass: fontselect: Using default font family: (Flare Gothic, 700, 0) -> Cabin-SemiBold, 0, Cabin-SemiBold

Looking at FlareGothicBOLD.ttf in fontforge reveals the issue: the font family names are wrong.

EDIT: the same thing happens on MPC-HC, btw.

Okay so all the signs reverts to use the default font specified by user for mpv to use which is GandhiSans Bold in my case. Dunno why this is happening but maybe try adding \fnfontname to the signs next time?
