Used the done and released [Kaleido-sub] subtitles for EP 1-3 and made my own subtitles for episodes 4-13 (I thought they have dropped that show. Now the 4th is out but I was almost through with my version and continued/completed it nontheless). Many thanks to [Kaleido-subs] for all the work that I could use in mine <3
**Subtitles EP 4-13:**
- OP/ED and a couple reoccuring signs from [Kaleido-subs]
- Translation from [Erai-raws] (ripped from CR/Funi)
- I did a complete manual retiming of all episodes, created typesetting for all translated signs and created chapters

If the amount of time spent into making this description was proportional the the amount of time spent making it a good encode then I think we could have another good encoder instead of mini maker.
**@absinth**
True. However, my minis, or minis in general are just fine with me and suit my needs perfectly. I am doing these for myself first and foremost and let the big boys handle good encoding. I do love spending countless hours in photoshop however. Not so much in vsedit :P
**@noobhunterd**
I do get much inspiration from the anime itself. Mostly from the openings and endings. You will most likely recognize the whole map part with spots on it and also the driving crew at the very bottom when viewing the opening. And almost all the little polaroid photos are from the anime itself too =)
I appreciate the fact that screen comps are provided and that this isn't played up as "great quality with small filesize" like most mini encoders like to tout themselves as, but even if you are aiming for low filsizes you could probably do much better. Getting into U2 is a bit of a pain so if the reason behind using Reinforce is that then i do understand it at least, but what is likely your filtering is very destructive. The textures of the wood in the first comp are not completely nuked yet, but severely muted. Probably because of a poorly masked and way too aggressive denoise in order to save on filesize. This is a bit of a shame because the textures are integral to the overall focus on nature of the iyashikei. Your encode settings are also... odd, to say the least. If you are denoising so strongly I don't think aq-strength of 1.0 makes sense. Your psy-rd settings are also very unusual, and a qcomp of 0.6 doesn't strike me as tuned. If you are going to use low bitrates for audio, please use Opus. It outperforms AAC below bitrates of 192, quite dramatically the lower you go.
Edit: Actually looking at your settings further, there are a lot more question marks there: If aiming for low filesize, why not 16 b-frames? When using cutree, why rc-lookahead of 25 instead of... 250, or other values of diminishing returns like 120? Why no no-sao??? I recommend you take a look at https://silentaperture.gitlab.io/mdbook-guide/encoding/x265.html

Thanks for the suggestions, will check them out. One can never know too much. I always tried to make it clear that encoding isn't my strong suit. And it doesn't have to be and probably never will because I invest exactly as much time in learning and experimenting with it as is need for me to get what is good enough for me. My jam is more in some signs typesetting here and there, messing about in photoshop and filling my library's many gaps with good-enough dual audio low sized anime compared to tinkering with encoder settings. Still appreciate some knowledge bombs though and do follow given leads to see where they lead. \o/
Cheers
Hey, love your encodes!
Any chance you could do a release of So I'm a Spider, So What?
With Kaleido's release having been stalled for a couple months now, I'd love a full release of the show to match that style.
**@Onyx_theTek**
It takes so much time for me to do one of these all by myself. I'm only doing these for very special shows that I watch with subtitles out of necessity (I usually watch dub) and that don't have any other subtitles already made. My job and school-lessons on the side only allow for so much work on this hobby here :/ I'm currently working on non non biyori s3 and dont have any immediate plans for anything else at the moment. These subtitle projects just come to me by chance whenever I have time for them. [Kaleido-subs] put out their 4th for yuru too recently. Hopefully they continue with that spider anime too.
Thanks for responding, appreciate the work you do here. It just sucks having to wait months after committing to a fan sub group. At this point I just hope someone slaps an encode together with Kaleido's OP/ED and typesetting and puts it out there.
Thanks again for your hard work!
I appreciate your effort, but I notice you tend to leave the emojis out of text conversations.

I must have missed some indeed. I do remember putting in a few where there werent any I think. When the English text was so much shorter than the Japanese text which would have left the bubble way too big I looked through my kaomochi library and tried to pick one that fit :)
good good, been meaning to check out season 2.
can you do this anime https://nyaa.si/view/1244033 ? if u do requests that is. subs need to be retimed to DVD release tho.
BD has some changes in SMS box location. So subs from ep 1-3 need to be relocated

Thanks for reporting. I went through Ep1 to Ep3 to search for these speech bubbles and fixed all that I found.
I prepared an xDelta patch and also included the raw .ass files for muxing yourself.
If you use xDelta, then the output files need to have the exact name they had when you downloaded (see this torrent file list)

Thanks for this & the sheer unadulterated effort you put in. Would just like to echo Tsukudakobashi's comments on the audio side, although I myself prefer AAC over Opus, a little bit higher bitrate could go a long way, especially if you're encoding on a PC. Encoders on PC don't do as good a job as CoreAudio on a mac for AAC audio.
**@immortallix**
I am currently using fdkaac with vbr quality 4/5 and never had any problems with that. Might as well put it to 5/5 as the size increase is neglibigle in comparison to the whole file anyway.

If you use VBR with fdkaac instead of qaac, you should always go with -m 5.
VBR isn't really that great implemented with fdkaac, everything lower results too low bitrates.
For so many stuff I downloaded off Nyaa, this is (probably) the first time I seen such a beautiful description.
Good job for the effort for making such a description!
*Might do that on mine **if** I happen to upload one on Nyaa XD*
