Is the commentary part somehow taken from LN or is this totally something the anime makers thought of, not involving Nisioisin?

They are original Nisioisin scripts.

they were entirely written by nisio apparently. i can't find the source for that claim but i've watched quite a few of them and they do read like nisio's work. though they're more like talk radio than commentary lol. (how did me and zang comment at the exact same second. and of course we were both ninja'd by motbob...)

As far as I know, the character commentaries are written by Nisioisin, or at least Bakemonogatari's commentary was. There are commentary tracks for every epsiode of the series and Kizu, and Bake's commentary is the only one that has been offiically translated. Fan translations now exist for every commentary track after Bake. Wow I got ninja'd there, lol
