The 1920x1080 with pcm audio bd remux into mkv is 14.7 GB. Original m2ts might be 15GB at most (since mkv has some lossless compression by default)
This 1488x1080 with flac audio encode is 13.3 GB. It seems like savings is just in the pcm -> flac audio, and barely from the cropping.
I like your encodes, although I still have to d/l Reinforce to get some extras like nc op/ed, because it's one of the only few using high bitrate/low crf 8 bit (good for h/w acceleration and video editing) but I noticed recently they've been close to original size, and here, practically same as original size

I was referring to the BD REMUX here: https://nyaa.si/view/1410649
where the original m2ts file in the BDMV might be slightly larger and that difference comes from the container format, partly because mkv uses compression by default (it's an option you can disable)
Anyways, I haven't checked for this, but I wonder if he's using the medium preset which is much much faster than something like very slow (what I use) at the expense of really bloating up the encode, or even just slow with too low crf.
