### Introduction: Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters is the final episodes of Dragon Ball Z Kai. Except the footage looked utterly terrible. It's Toei's answer to Funimation's "Orange Bricks" release. It's cropped, sharpened, and tinted green. What a waste of a perfectly good idea. This is the entire first episode of TFC synced to the [SoM Dragon Box Merge.](https://nyaa.si/view/1331090) I painstakingly synced, frame-by-frame, the Dragon Box Merge to fit the exact frames of the TFC Blu-Ray release. This means any of your fanmade re-scores will sync perfectly, and that the included audio is perfectly synced to the TFC BD. The only difference is the far superior picture quality on this release, and a better OP/ED. (More below.) I plan to do the entirety of "The Final Chapters," but it will take plenty of time. It's a big undertaking, but I am committed to the project. I am personally very proud of this episode, alone, and I think the final result will be far better than the official release. ### Torrent Info: I made a few creative differences, however: 1. I have replaced the TFC OP/ED with Kai2014's, on the English and Japanese tracks of Kai:TFC. This includes the OP/ED's video scenes. This does **not** throw off the sync of the episode. 2. Included Diccolo-420's "Faulconer Revival" rescore on Track 3, for fans of the Faulconer Productions score. The OP/ED of Kai: The Final Chapters at release is pretty bad. "Fight It Out" has been replaced with "Kuu Zen Zetsu Go!" and "Never Give Up" has been replaced with "Dear Zarathustra." These are the Kai2014 OP/ED of the first segment, respectively. I made this creative choice due to the input of others, and due to my own personal opinion. However, track 3 of the episode contains the original OP/ED audio during the appropriate times. The video, however, is still sourced from Kai2014's Creditless BD. Diccolo-420's "Faulconer Revival" from Kanzenshuu forums, from my perspective, would be quintessential to include in this project. Different people have their opinions on the Faulconer (Smith/Morgan/Dobos) score, but I find that it's superior over Sumitomo's score. For those who enjoy it, you can listen to the Faulconer productions score on Track 3. **I did not edit this score, it was done entirely by Diccolo-420. Please give all appropriate credit to him. I just muxed his audio-track into the episode.** ### Media Sources: | Media | Source | Credit | | ------------- |:-------------:| -----:| | Video| [SoM] Dragon Ball Z R1+R2J Dragon Box Merge | JySzE/Romao | | Video #2 | Dragon Ball: Kai 2014| Toei | Audio #1 | Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters BD | Funi/Toei | | Audio #2 | Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters BD | Funi/Toei | |Audio #3| Faulconer Revival |Diccolo-420 | |Subtitles #1| Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters BD| Funi/Toei | |Subtitles #2| Titles Only | Nemu | **[MEDIAINFO](https://pastebin.com/AD5m8Nhy)** ### FAQ: **Why use the Dragon Boxes?** The 30th Anniversary BD is a horrible release. Nobody should be forced to watch that. The Dragon Box merge done by JySzE/Romao is the best PQ for Dragon Ball Z. It's the **only** complete release that I would ever watch. **"Where's Faulconer?**" Audio track 3. **"Where's Yamamoto?"** Yamamoto got fired before Kai was even done airing, so he didn't compose anything for TFC. There *are* fan-projects that attempt to make his music work with TFC. If one is finished, I will gladly include it. **"Where's Kikuchi?"** A Kikuchi rescore for TFC has not been completed. If one eventually gets completed, I will gladly include it. **"ARE ALL THE EPISODES GOING TO BE THIS BIG?"** Yes, or they'll be bigger. **"Why the black bars? Is this 4:3?"** I pillarboxed the episode, which means the 16:9 footage would take up the entire screen. The only 16:9 footage in this episode is the OP/ED and the eyecatchers. The recap, NEP, and episode content are all *UNCROPPED* 4:3. This means that *everything* is uncropped. **"How long until more episodes?"** No time-frame will be given. This could take a very long time. **"Why is there aliasing?"** MPC has a poor upscaler, [try using MPV with spline36.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/10dzmt9ssVi2JwyY6dzvkrHFim6O-k-mn/edit) **"The subtitles don’t look right!"** Make sure you’re using MPV, or MPC with VSFilter. [You can find VSFilter here.](https://www.videohelp.com/software/VSFilter-DirectVobSub) While other players or configurations may work, different players handle blur and sizing differently and so your results may look different than those presented in the example. I hope you enjoy this episode, along with the promise of a future complete release. Thanks. I am wondering why size is nearly 4gb for a 480p video it's not like it's a remux or something but even 480p remux wouldn't be of 4gb (I guess). Not complaining but just curious.
This would've been great with the upscale

@TheDevilsHyper I don't compress anything. It's big because it includes both 16:9 video, the merge itself (which is high quality) and then 3 high-quality audio tracks. It's to preserve quality because, releasing a compressed shit-quality footage after months of hard-work would be a waste @Gnosis Upscales aren't allowed on Nyaa. While the upscale DOES look good, imo, I prefer the original. It simply has more grain.
@DevilsHyper lol the PCM tracks alone are 1.4GB. convert to FLAC if you want to save some space
@Ghosty6464 Yeah I'm with you on that awesome project tho man I hope you finish it!!
Domo arigato Ghosty roboto.
This is the kind of quality project I can get behind.
Why was the Japanese audio upmixed to 5.1ch (and with quiet C & LFE channels)? The SL-SR channels also appear as if they're identical to the L-R channels. Should have just used 2.0ch.
should have used the SOM merged upscale as dbkai is supposed to be HD . i'll add that it's a Very nice project @scav : japanese audio is basically mastered as mono tracks so even 2.0 is useless
Great idea. Hope you release all episodes. > The Dragon Box merge done by JySzE/Romao is the best PQ for Dragon Ball Z. It’s the only complete release that I would ever watch. True, but if TOEI ever stops being lazy and releases an HD Remaster of DB, Z and GT like they did for DB/Z movies then we won't need to rely on SD sources.
So was the video track transcoded or did JySzE give you the scripts and you re-encoded from the sources but added the pillar boxing? Edit: Downloaded the video to check it out, there's zero reason to use LPCM audio in any release ever. If you want to keep lossless quality, compress to FLAC. If you want to save some space, go for Opus/AAC. But LPCM is a drag on storage and bandwidth that provides no benefit. And, I second what others have said, for the Japanese track, please include the original stereo as the 5.1 audio is just a crap upmix from Funimation. No big deal if you want to include for people who want it, but don't skip the original stereo track please. <3 Compressing the two included audio tracks to FLAC reduces the episode file size to 2.77 GB leaving plenty of room to fit in the Japanese stereo track and still ending up with a smaller file size than this first release.
So many people bitching about free shit... maybe get off your ass and do it yourself instead. And lol complaining about pcm. Im sorry itll take 1 or 3 more seconds to download

Im sorry itll take 1 or 3 more seconds to download It's okay to provide critique in a respectful manner to improve future releases. Just because something is "free" doesn't mean the creator isn't maybe interested in ways to further improve their work, as they're spending time to do it and if they didn't care what the end result looked or sounded like, they wouldn't have spent so much time creating something at this level of quality. The project is clearly collaborative as shown by the credits.
Was there a kai 1-98 release in dbox merge and i didnt notice?
@Chounsoku FLAC isn't lossless, it’s compressed in order to save space in your hard drive.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lossless_compression There is a difference between lossless compression and lossy compression. FLAC is a lossless codec, like TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, etc. When encoding a track to FLAC, you can then decode it back to LPCM and the two tracks will be bit identical (assuming you don't have bad RAM or something). You can try this yourself if you'd like, use a MD5 checksum generator to confirm the input LPCM and the FLAC track decoded back to LPCM match.
