### **⚠ NOTICE ⚠: My seedbox will go offline on** [October 13, 2023](https://time.is/1200PM_13_Oct_2023_in_ET). After that, my torrents with no seeds will be "Seeded by Request" You can contact me on discord for that if necessary. That also means It's high unlikely that I will be releasing, or fixing any more torrents for the time being. [I've been seeding all my torrents pretty consistently over these past 3 years](https://i.imgur.com/irUlgaJ.png), so I think I've done pretty well compared to the average releaser. If anything ever changes this announcement will be updated. *Last modified September 18, 2023* --- Errors reported after [May 11, 2021](https://time.is/1200PM_11_May_2021_in_CT) are not guaranteed to be fixed. **Please** report any errors you find before this date. --- ### **Release Description** This is a modified version of the x4subs release. I have several questions! : how did you take these Screenshots? why there an audio big difference between the source and the encode ? why did you use Opus ?

ShareX and [mpv.net](https://github.com/stax76/mpv.net) in fullscreen, I know this isn't the correct way to make comparison screenshots, but it allows me to also get the OSD in the screenshot for others to know what timecode I'm at. I'm also uploading them to imgur, so It doesn't really matter what method I use. It's just there for basic comparisons, not finding every missing pixel. --- The source (x4subs) uses a Vorbis encode from what I assume is the DVD. The thing is, DVDs don't usually come with lossless audio. It's always lossy, meaning all the other uploads have re-encoded audio. If you're talking about why the Opus encode looks different from the DTS-HDMA source, it's because of how opus works. The frequency range of most headphones and humans is 20hz-20khz meaning anything after that point is kinda useless, so Opus cuts that out to save space (It will exceed it if necessary though). --- I use Opus because it's simple to work with and a has a good quality to size ratio.
was the existing dvd encode really better than the bluray?

@valid Depends on how you want to look at it. [x4subs](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/749351946741088349/830942165034860574/unknown.png) - Has slight moozzi syndrome [kuchikirukia](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/749351946741088349/828393854155620362/unknown.png) - non-working ordered chapters [USA BD](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/749351946741088349/828393767110574080/unknown.png) - USA BD Could probably be fixed with some filtering, but with my limited "knowledge" in encoding it would probably be worse.
The kuchikirukia one doesn't use ordered chapters. I think it uses linked mkvs and only works on MPC-HC by default.

Komplex (uploader)

User
> ordered chapters. I think it uses linked mkvs Same thing, different name. >and only works on MPC-HC by default. Yeah, fun times for everyone using VLC/MPV (there's a lot of us) EDIT: Actually, that's not true kuchi's danmachi release works just fine on MPV. There's just something wrong with the kino release.
expecting things to work in vlc is a mistake anyway

Komplex (uploader)

User
expecting vlc to work*
Sorry, I'm mixing up ordered chapters, linked mkvs, and segment linking: https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/8463 The separate feature I was thinking of was segment linking

kuchikirukia has some of the best releases for titles such as Texhnolyze, Hyper Police, and Macross. Unfortunately the aforementioned use the type of linked MKVs not supported by mpv player. Ordered chapters work fine with mpv. I haven’t come across another uploader that uses that specific format besides kuchikirukia. Their releases are tailored specifically for MPC. Anyways, thanks@Komplex. Nice release.
wasn't it only his older releases where at times he used segment linking
I think their last release to use segment linking is coincidentally, Kino.
That reminds me I never released Planetarian to Nyaa. Fixed. This isn't better than mine. There's some ugly crawling with respect to the series' scan lines. It's obvious at 3:38 when it's zooming in on the tent ceiling. 11:38, the pan across the rooftops is just terrible. The DVD has a really nice look to it and this just isn't it.

>This isn’t better than mine. Yeah no shit, but it's the only option for those who want a fully working release.
Ain't hard to undo linked mkvs. Throw the opening into mkvtoolnix, append the episode, then append the ending, and hit mux. Repeat for each episode. Though it's easier to just download a real player. Oh, and I misread your comment Kulot99. My last release to use linked mkvs was actually my most recent release (Planetarian), which was only on PTP until now. Linked mkvs require the opening or ending to be at the very beginning or ending of file (no prologue or preview [unless you cut the previews]) so they're not suitable for the majority of series. They're much easier to make which is why I use them when able.

>Ain’t hard to undo linked mkvs. Throw the opening into mkvtoolnix, append the episode, then append the ending, and hit mux. Ah, I never considered trying to append them in that order. That seems to break fonts though, so you'd still need to figure what to do for that. (you should put this advice in your release description) >Though it’s easier to just download a real player. Yeah, you should... I think I stopped using MPC because it always had this weird pixelated look with I assume only affected HEVC videos. I'm pretty sure with some extra software or playback setting tweaks it could be easily fixed, but I just decided to move onto MPV instead. (like everyone else) >Linked mkvs require the opening or ending to be at the very beginning or ending of file (no prologue or preview [unless you cut the previews]) so they’re not suitable for the majority of series. I'm sure you probably know this but, Kino is also one of these shows. (previews) --- Normally I probably wouldn't care, but I plan to group watch this with some people and (the same friend who provided the audio) *obviously* wants to use the Blu-ray he paid for. The problem is [syncplay](https://syncplay.pl/) would get confused with the episodes having different timecodes, so we would all need to all use your release or all use the Blu-ray, so I ended up making this.
@Komplex After appending the opening/ending together with the episode, you'd have to combine the subtitles into one file (as they are split into 3 in this case, OP/Dialogue/ED). That means re-timing subtitles as a full episode, rather than as their own separate entities. The time-shifting parameters would be identical for every episode. You'd have to time-shift the dialogue for each subtitle (same shift parameters) and copy/paste the properly re-timed OP/ED into each subtitle file (including the font style information if it's missing). It would be far easier to use the subtitles from your release and re-time them if necessary. @kuchikirukia. Welcome back. Will check out your Afro Samurai release. I switched over to mpv because complex subtitles don't run well with MPC (I believe there is a libass plugin though). mpv is far more customizable and I prefer it over MPC/madVR for shaders (madVR doesn't run as well for me). MPC isn't officially supported anymore unlike mpv which is still growing. I tried MPC-BE but it still lacked in comparison. It would be ideal if mpv added segment linking as a feature. It is what it is. Appreciate both of your releases. Cheers.

User
@Kulot99 Yeah, I figured as much.
Will you also make a release for the [movies](https://nyaa.si/view/467857)? Unfortunately, I couldn't find "Episode 0" ova from x4subs.

Komplex (uploader)

User
>Will you also make a release for the movies? The BD didn't include them, so there were no improvements I could make. >I couldn’t find “Episode 0” ova from x4subs. Yeah, you're going to have to get it from [kuchikirukia](https://nyaa.si/view/1069013).
Here's a torrent where someone already stitched together kuchikirukia's release. The subtitles aren't aesthetically pleasing. Previews are still omitted. Nonetheless, a good resource for those that want the forementioned encode without linking. https://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5241524

We Sherlock Holmes out here
Ha @Komplex. I only checked the first episode and the subtitles from your release seem to match perfectly.

Komplex (uploader)

User
Ah, it's always nice when that happens.
Is this 2003 version?

Komplex (uploader)

User
I'm not sure. It might be, it might not be.
>Opus Pretty sad that this is the best option available.

Komplex (uploader)

User
Well, I didn't think it was worth bloating a rather average DVD encode with an extra 10 GiB of 2003 audio.
Thanks for the release, but let's be honest. You bloated this an extra gig by adding the English audio. It wouldn't hurt to have high quality JP audio. I don't see how the year it was made has anything to do with whether or not it was worth releasing lossless.

Komplex (uploader)

User
Because, believe it or not, audio quality has vastly improved since 2003. Opus is virtually transparent with modern day Hi-Fi audio, let alone whatever 90s gear this was recorded on. Not to mention, my comment was pointing out the insanity of pairing 4 GiB of video with 10 GiB of audio...
