The anime was an unfortunately lackluster and disjointed adaptation, which, both as a retelling of the story and on its own merits, disappointed all around. The novels are far superior, and the manga is a near 1 to 1 retelling of the novels (and is very well drawn), so these are the recommended ways to experience the story. The novels are official translations, pulled from Officially Translated Light Novels 14.0 (https://nyaa.si/view/1338775) and the manga is fan translated and ripped from Dynasty Reader. New chapters release monthly. the novel translation is almost as bad the anime tbh. sure hope the official translation of the manga is better.

@herkz the novels are fine imho idk about how accurate a translation it is since I haven't learned to read Japanese (yet...), but as far as prose quality goes at least, I think it's decent. I had a good time reading them. I've certainly seen much worse
Lacking other comparison, imo the novel translation is alright. it's a bit flat, but that seems to be problem in light novel in general. compare and contrast with anime, who scramble the arc orders, doesn't mesh them so they work well together, and add perhaps unnecessary filler. But it has great OP and ED, and usually the animation within the arc is done faithfully. so it's not that bad.

they kind of ruined Sorawo's character by neglecting to adapt her internal monologue doesn't really work when the best you can muster to replace two pages of social anxiety thoughts is "*stares vacantly*"

I do agree that the OP and ED are well done, though. It's not unwatchable, just not ideal
the translation is accurate as far as i know. there is just way too much stuff left in japanese (sometimes literally, not just romaji) that goes far beyond what even the average weeb would understand. and there's basically no reason for any of it to be left like that.
i got excited seeing this, then sad.
Same. It would be much better if the anime followed the story from the novel or manga instead of doing it in a casual way. Still watchable though.
ripped from Dynasty! You know we have a download button there, right? To just download it? Like a normal human?
@yeshallbeasgods You're mistaken. I looked around https://dynasty-scans.com/series/otherside_picnic and there is no single download option. I'd have to laboriously go to each chapter and download each one and then combine those zips into a cbz, which is what the OP did for us here, and I appreciate their work. Plus, they even gave Dynasty credit multiple places on this page, so I think they did good here. Thanks OP!
Pay no attention to herkz. He is a professional whiner.
