Thanks for making the episode title names display in white text instead of black on the Signs & Songs track. They were definitely black before, no matter what ChaoXide says :P
@THGhost
ChaoXide was right though and we've changed nothing. It's always been white text.
But it's good to hear you fixed your video player and got it working correctly I suppose.
@LostYears
That's the thing though, I didn't change anything. The first 8-9 episodes definitely had black text. I even compared them to the full subs track. The full track was white, the Signs/Songs track was black. I also looked at them with SubtitleEdit and they had no white color code. This was the case with every video player I tried.
@THGhost
Then you apparently have some strange broken setup that randomly decides whether it wants to work or not, because that is definitely not the case and we've already proven that. You're literally the ONLY person out of thousands that claim it's black. There's literally no reason for that to be the case. You've even been shown screenshots where that is not the case.
No video player we've tried has displayed the sign any different than the screenshot already provided. We cannot replicate your issue in any software.
If it's black for you then it's entirely on your end and your end only and you should troubleshoot why your playback setup isn't displaying subtitles correctly. We can't fix something that isn't broken. The exact same subtitles are being used by half a dozen groups as-is... and none of them have anyone claiming white text is displaying black.
You can continue claim it all you want in every weekly episode, but we've confirmed there is nothing wrong here. I watch every episode myself as well as I like this show. No one can replicate your issue on ANY video player.
The sign in the signs track is identical to the sign in the full subs as the signs track is created from the full subs track. There is absolutely nothing there that would cause the two tracks to render differently... and again absolutely no one else who has watched this has had the issue you have. If only one person has an issue out of thousands... there is something up with the method that one user is utilizing to watch it.
Even checking the subs in Aegisub confirm the sign is indeed set to be white.
SubtitleEdit would be a very weird software to look into ASS subtitles.
@LostYears
If I'm the only one then that's cool. It is very weird that it was just those 2 lines, but I'm glad it's working now - whatever it was I did :P
And I didn't claim it on every weekly episode, I only brought it up once xD looking forward to the next release!
SubtitleEdit works great with ASS :)
I mean this is the second time you've brought it up so it isn't so much of a stretch to assume it would continue into future episodes.
But to clarify, DDY releases a v0 each week, SCY then puts out his encode with DDYs subs, DDY then does a v1 of the subs, we then use the v1 subs with SCYs encode, and then several other groups takes the subs and audio sync from our release to create their own smaller releases and such. So it's really not just our release that uses these subs in the long run.
I've also checked into the subs on Aegisub: there are two layers for the sign in question. One for the black shadow and then a second layer for the white text to be overlaid. If for some reason your playback isn't displaying it like that then for some reason your playback solution isn't listening to the layer numbers as it should be and if that is the case it could definitely cause more issues with advance signs that sometimes have dozens of layers that need to be rendered in a certain order. In any case, the only reason it would be rendering black is if it's either not rendering the white layer at all or for some reason rendering it under the black shadow layer. In either of these cases it is not the intended outcome nor do the subtitles show any indication that would cause this.
Further more you've stated the full subs don't suffer this issue, which just compounds things, because the signs track is literally just a copy of the full subs track with the dialogue lines removed. So if the full subs is rendering correctly for you, it's confusing as to why the signs wouldn't be.
But again, I've taken a look in Aegisub, MPV, MPC-HC, Plex, and VLC and yet was unable to replicate the issue you have. All 11 episodes display with white text exactly like the screenshot you saw from ChaoXide for me in all instances in both the signs track and the full subtitles.
continued since I hit character limit of comment system...
The fact that you claim the opposite is true is even more puzzling, because if it was just one video player it would be somewhat understandable how an issue could arise on your end, but it's baffling if absolutely everything you try is also showcasing the same issue.
At the end of the day though, I can't see any issue in the signs track that should cause that nor can I replicate the issue, and therefore I don't have a solution for you. I'm sorry that is the case, but it is what it is.
I brought it up as a potential issue once and only once. I then thanked you for fixing it on a separate upload because it suddenly started working for me and I thought you'd read my comment and fixed it. If I caused any aggravation by doing that, then I apologise because that wasn't my intention. Your hard work is very much appreciated :) And like you said, it was something janked on my end so I have no reason to bring it up again. I'm as perplexed as you are :P
Peace ☮︎
