### This release is outdated. [Click here for v2](https://nyaa.si/view/1364876) --- I basically took [SCY's release](https://nyaa.si/view/1089936) and edited the (in my opinion) crappy subs. Typesetting is the same, midcard and sign translations are the same, new TL is from [DameDesuYo](https://nyaa.si/view/1354886). SCY’s S1 and S3 releases both use Baal and DDY respectively (these two use similar terminology), while this one uses LostYears. There are many subtle differences, such as different name translations (ex: “Hanji” instead of “Hange”, “vertical maneuver gear” instead of “3d maneuver gear”), but it becomes more apparent while watching that entire lines of dialogue are either mistranslated or worded badly. For example, Zeke says “Not yet, huh?” in Japanese, but it’s translated as “Where are they?” by LostYears. https://i.imgur.com/2ZbgST4.png I always recommend SCY’s releases to my friends, so I intended to create a release that provides a more consistent viewing experience, where translations for commonly used terms don’t switch between seasons. Given you like the TL changes, this should be the highest quality AoT season 2 release.

how does SCY have worse subs than DDY when it came out after? really makes you think.
SCY's release utilizes an original translation from SallySubs; DDY edited Funimation's script. They are *not* different modifications of the same script, so I don't think there's anything unusual about people having strong preferences for (either) one over the other.
The unusual is claiming that SallySubs are crappy without stating why. Lostyears is a [mix of SallySubs/DDY](https://nyaa.si/view/920473). The DDY release that the uploader links in the description is just a batch of DDY's which according to AniDB it was released [04.11.2017](https://anidb.net/anime/10944). Taking a look at [DDY's website](https://damedesuyo.com/) we can see that there hasn't been a v2 (keep in mind the BlurayDesuYo is just DDY subs mux to BD). Seeing that Scyrous released [S2 over a year later](https://nyaa.si/view/1089936) and also the fact that Scyrous for the most makes good releases, we can assume that SCY took in consideration DDY's translation. Also that the uploader didn't do their research and that having strong preferences isn't the same thing as saying subs are crappy.
Funny thing is DDY uses SallySubs TL for S4... so it's pretty laughable when people try to shit on SallySubs TL for S2. In any case, this should be marked red according to the rules as it's just "scy's release remuxed for "fixing purposes" even if technically they just made it worse.

Hey, here to clarify what I meant. SCY's S1 and S3 releases both use DDY as a base for his subs, while this one uses LostYears. There are many subtle differences, such as different name translations (ex: "Hanji" instead of "Hange", "vertical maneuver gear" instead of "3d maneuver gear"), but it becomes more apparent while watching that entire lines of dialogue are either mistranslated or worded badly. For example, Zeke says “Not yet, huh?” in Japanese, but it's translated as "Where are they?" by LostYears. https://i.imgur.com/2ZbgST4.png I always recommend SCY's releases to my friends, so I intended to create a release that provides a more consistent viewing experience, where translations for commonly used terms don't switch between seasons. SCY himself has said that when all seasons have released he wants to release a batch that fixes inconsistencies in old releases, but I didn't want to wait around for that and created this release for the time being. You are free to use SCY's old release, but I just wanted to create a better release for my friends.
Thanks, this is great.
>The unusual is claiming that SallySubs are crappy without stating why. it's actually pretty safe to assume their releases are crappy since, without almost any exception, they regularly picked the worst TL available. i can think of many of their releases that used less accurate official subs over original fansub translations because the fansubs were from "cartel" groups. thankfully the group is dead now.
Episode 4 has both LostYears and DDY subs and the DDY muxed in is out of sync. Ep 5 & 6 also have audio commentary left in.
> SCY’s S1 and S3 releases both use DDY as a base for his subs DDY didn't do S1, SCY used Baal/Evetaku subs for S1

@Pinkaka The TLs are pretty similar, so I didn't even realise. thanks @Mabby making a v2 now. commentary tracks are left in on purpose, those are the only ones SCY included as well
