# Intro
This is a re-encode in x265 of the amazing Dragon Ball release by Ikaos and others, which you can find [here!](https://nyaa.si/view/1283101)
The purpose of this release was to keep the amazing quality of the original, while shrinking the size to a more manageable level.
**Differences to the original iKaos release:**
+ Fully encoded in x265 while maintaining quality
+ Removed 'Remastered' Japanese audio track (Inferior to mono broadcast audio)
+ Removed 'Basic' subtitle track (Use stylised track instead)
+ I have also included all V3 fixes for the original release by iKaos (Episodes [026, 041 and 138](https://nyaa.si/view/1285424))
You can find comparisons of video quality between my release and the original [here!](https://slow.pics/c/ZD3JoHIA)

@Muraragi-san No problem :)
@luigirovatti Yes, my next plan is to do what i've done here to iKaos's DBZ release too. He hasn't released a torrent for DB GT yet, but if they do i'll do that one too :)
@moonlite88 Yes, the original source is the R2J Dragon Box. The link in the first line of the description will tell you more about it.
Nice.
> He hasn’t released a torrent for DB GT yet,
The content for DBGT is out there (I upped a DBox Remux with various dubs/subs separately), but hardly anyone touches GT.
The only thing to be mad about is the claim that the "amazing quality" was maintained. It wasn't.
There's nothing wrong with small encodes, but at least be up front about it, you know?
I spent two weeks encoding this after a day of experimenting to make sure i preserved grain as much a I could.
If you downloaded it, you'd know that it's not 'sans grain'. If you can tell the difference to the original while watching, then go download that instead.
But, if you think you can do better, please feel free :)
Honestly not that bad of an encode. This should be good for the people asking for smaller file sizes. Personally I hate the idea of encoding 480p content in x265 as 265 can only really be used well with digitally animated HD content or 4K. I suggest doing a x264 version. You can get around the same file sizes and better quality because of how x264 works with encoding grainy content
I've made preliminary encodes for my DBZ release, which have led me to realise that perhaps this encode was not as good as it could have been. (underestimated savings from removing audio tracks, encoded at a too low RF)
So after I complete my DBZ encode, I will be redoing this with better encode settings. The expected file size for this will be about 150GB instead of its current 80.
(Expect the DBZ release to be about 500GB).
I'll leave this up for now, but will hide it when the time comes and the new release is ready.
Aren't 500GB too much for the encode of DBZ? You should aim for something like 1GB per episode, because what's the point of keeping such a large file size if it's a re encode?
@SymbtcnThry There are much smaller Dragon Box encodes on this site you can download if you want smaller encodes. I'd say what Xarano is doing is pretty good. Smaller encodes but preserving detail and grain.
I'm not asking for mini encodes. I think the 2DS version looks quite bad, there's a lot of blocking specially in dark and high motion scenes. I'm just saying around 1GB per episode would be a good tradeoff between size and quality, like the ones iKaos released a while ago before increasing the size.
oh, I see. about the resolution, I made a little comparison https://slow.pics/c/IbeHAsoK.
I found this release is cropped a little bit on the sides (left&right), unlike 2ds' release. but this one has better details and contains more grains.
don't get me wrong tho I'm not saying this release is bad or something. I'm just thinking that you could get 2ds' release for about half the size. of course, you have to take some compromises for that.
in the end, this is only my opinion.
@KOD 2DS went far overboard. I actually used to watch DBZ and DB with his encodes and the dark areas and high motion scenes look terrible. Also yes they cropped their merge release. Y'know why? Because that is the correct PAR for the show. The Dragon Box has inconsistent cropping. Some scenes have more picture on the left and right than others. It's nothing to worry about as it was cropped that way on the R1 Dragon Box anyway.
@Xarano Great encode; there's surprisingly not many low-size encodes for dragon ball while still preserving its quality. I wish you could've converted the JPN audio to AAC or smth as FLAC adds to its size for no reason, but can't complain much with such a good video encode.
Please make your DBZ encode like this!!
@Venny
thank you for the informations.
yes, I also notice the quality drop in dark areas.
maybe someone in the future will make a better mini collection.??
