Isn’t 400-500 MB per episode too much for an AV1?
With H265 you can obtain the same size…
Mmmmmh, maybe by removing those unnecessary English dub and commentary tracks with mkvtoolnix I can reduce the size.
Thanks in any case bro, and happy new year.

@chrnodroid. I agree; however, I was kinda aiming for quality this time as it’s my first AV1 release & I quite like this show.
The video bitrate can definitely be reduced without much fuss except for the pixel peepers, but the video files themselves are already small enough imo at 204-625MB / episode. A lot of the file is used up by the audio tracks and subtitles.
I also don’t make use of the dub myself but I like including it for the people who actually use it; I can definitely understand why you would consider it unnecessary though.
I’m contemplating if it would be a good idea to make a smaller Nichijou release without a bunch of the extra stuff like the trailers and dub tracks.
Additionally I believe the NCEDs 4-16 all have the same video? In that case I could probably just add each ED as an audio track to one video.

Oh lol I forgot to make signs tracks for the fansubs, I was thinking of specifically making one for Doki only cuz the OP styling is nicer. Oh well that would have raised the filesizes further anyway.

Nice. I was searching for a good release and this appeared. How long did it take to encode?
nathanielcwm
A while lol.
I actually don’t remember the numbers but the NCEDs took about 700s each iirc. on 3600
nathanielcwm
Oh wait I misremembered. I think it was 7000s / episode so not nearly as bad.
salarx
That’s not a lot of time. Is it cpu 3 encode? Still pretty impressive! You must have a Ryzen 9 or two lol.
nathanielcwm
Oh lol it was on cpu 5 as I didn’t really want to wait that long. As I’ve stated earlier this was done on a R5 3600 so nothing too special lol.
Funnily enough the encode was pretty much only the second longest part of the whole process with the subtitles taking a substantially longer time

10 bit plays too slowly. Frames are dropped, even on a reasonably strong computer. This is because acceleration on PCs is only for 8 bit with AV1. PCs need 8bit AV1.

@Hogoledo https://www.reddit.com/r/AV1/comments/kprht6/how_to_make_dav1d_the_best_av1_decoder_as_fast_as/
My ryzen 3500U drops only a handful of frames on 10 bit at 24fps, dav1d 0.8.2-2-g6c6d25d.
The average decoding fps is around 85.
I tested it decoding this: https://nyaa.si/view/1351697
so not an easy encode either.
