For some episodes (11-13), I spliced in the dub audio for the Engrish parts. I included the original audio as an alternate track for people who feel queasy about stuff like that, but the Engrish was distracting, and the splices were seamless (if I do say so myself).

Two things about this series that I want to preserve for posterity:
Twice in this show, we decided to use a term in the script that was different than what appears on screen. For example, we used "Emperor Vecta" even though when his name was first mentioned in the season, there was big-ass English text on screen saying "Emperor Vector." In both cases where this happened, the studio changed the BD video to what we had in the script! It's not at all odd that they did this, since the terms we used were also the official LN terms/names. But I have never ever heard of a fansubbing decision being "vindicated" like this, so I wanted to note it.
Also, the Aniplex script straight-up copied some of the official LN's lines. For example, there was a line in episode 17 or so that was identical to what the LN had. And I have some hilarious proof that it wasn't a coincidence: normally, the subtitles used straight apostrophes (`'`), but there was a smart apostrophe (`’`) in the line in question, indicating that it was copied from the official LN, which used smart apostrophes. Hopefully, they had permission.
> Is this series standalone or do I need to watch something else to fully understand it?
This is season 3, 4 or 5 (depending on how you wish to look at it based on how they split it up) of SAO, so yeah... definitely should watch previous seasons first.
aniplex copied lines from the official translation of the kaguya-sama manga too. i bet this happens more than people think (which probably is a good thing if anything seeing how bad some of aniplex's ranslations are).
aniplex also copies translations for FGO babylonia. one of the big lines that was changed for english localization somehow made its way to subtitles and it just sounds so wrong lmao.
just aniplex things i guess.
