Thanks Mathca! Hopefully your laptop holds at least until you finish this (and much more :P ) What's wrong with the keyboard anyways? Stuck keys? Non-working keys? Not working at all? Did you spill coffee on it?

I do plan to get a new laptop (don't know when that'll be). Keyboard has non-working keys. I did not spill coffee on it. There are ways to work around that but ultimately my laptop is getting very old. It's just best to replace it.

Are the non-working keys spread randomly, or they are in the same row/column? If the latter, then it's probably a broken connection in some of the electrical traces or the motherboard connector. You can try disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard (are you comfortable about opening the laptop?). Also look for broken traces where the cable bends. If it's random keys, the problem is in the keys themselves - dirt, oxidation, etc. Putting it in the laundry may help... or make it worse. May take couple days to dry fully. Also, instead of spending for a whole new laptop, you may look for a cheap replacement keyboard or a broken for-parts laptop of the same model. What model is that thing anyways?

Random keys. Don't think it's dirt. Will not laundry as laptop keys are different. Can't find replacement. "It's a Sony." I've already spent to replace the battery and charger. The monitor is dead as well. I'm using a TV to project the screen. Bottom line, just need to get a new laptop. Thanks for caring, but I'll end this here as I don't want to whine more on it.
